How is the ATT cell service in Binghamton and surrounding area? Do they have "landline" phones in the dorm rooms too? Thanks for any input.

I was visiting BU last week and I had full bars on my iPhone for AT&T. The 3g Internet was also running smoothly. The dorms do have landline phones which allow you to make local and long distance phone calls (at least that’s what the tour guide said)

Thanks for the info!

ATT is actually probably the best service in Broome County. There are some spots in the county where there is no Verizon service. However, on campus and in downtown Binghamton and the rest of the “valley” ATT and Verizon are both fine!

How about T-mobile?

They all work pretty well (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile), but AT&T has a tower on campus.

??? From what I heard, most of the students have verizon cell phones and verizon works the best. I guess what I’ve herad is wrong…

To be completely honest, most services work really well around here and the only variable now is what kind of antenna you have on your phone. I live around Binghamton and use Verizon but I had trouble in basements and buildings getting services with my old phone. Recently I’ve upgraded and this issue is gone. 3G is available up here in most of the “Binghamton area” although if once you stray from Broome County (20-30 minutes in any direction) service starts to get a little sketchy, especially when you’re driving past all those trees, mountains and farms on highways.

yeah i think verizon works the best cuz most students use that.

Verizon is the most popular although last fall there was a major issue when Verizon service was completely shut down for half a day. AT&T has excellent service although I did have a few dropped calls in my dorm room… That may or may not be because of my location though.

As for the dorm phones, I’ve never seen them in use. Yeah, they have the free class but most people use their cell phones to call home, it’s just easier.
