Are there parties? Is Atlanta a good place to reside in? How social and fun is Emory?

bump I want to know this also.

From Princeton Review: “Emory is interesting because there is a lack of school spirit,” but “There is an abundance of support on campus for different activities. Almost everyone participates in some activity. Many people volunteer in some way or another or are extraordinarily active on campus.” Greek life is huge at Emory; while “only one-third of the population” is involved, “It feels much stronger than it actually is in numbers. This is because students in Greek life tend to be community leaders.” When it’s party time, “People basically act like regular college kids: They drink, go out to bars or clubs, or [attend] Greek functions.” Freshmen and sophomores are more likely to hang close to campus, while upperclassmen are more likely to explore Atlanta. Students tell us that “life at Emory is tricky, because Atlanta is one of the best and . . . worst college towns in the country. While there are a wealth of dining, culture, and sports opportunities, they must all be commuted to, which spells one thing: High taxi bills, unless you have a car.” (Atlanta’s mass transit system is considered “dangerous and unreliable” by most students here.) Popular destinations include Midtown, Virginia Highlands, Toco Hills, Buckhead, and Decatur.

Overall I've heard compared to other top twenty schools, it has a pretty decent social life.

QUICK POINT! Yes, 1/3 of the school is involved in Greek life, but it doesn't overwhelm the campus. It is an active voice, but in no way is it the 'only' social option at Emory. Basically, Greek can be as much or as little as you want it to be

I wasn't in a frat, but I found good parties to attend every weekend outside of frat row (which I didn't really like). The club scene is pretty good. A lot of them are reasonable too. Fever, for instance, is a really nice 21 and up club and guys get in for free before 11. Opera is pretty popular but can be pricey. There's all sorts of lounges as well. Moya is a club that's within walking distance from Clairmont Campus, and there's a new one that opened up that's like a five minute drive or so. Those two aren't really great, but they're really convenient. Most people split cabs for the nicer clubs and it usually turns out to be pretty reasonable if you're going with a medium sized group. A lot of students go to Famous, Maggie's, and the Highland's for bars. Bottom line is that it's Atlanta, so there's an abundance of fun things to do if you take the time to look.

it's really fun. you'll meet friends with cars so it wont be a problem to get around. there's always something to do, usually thursday bars, friday frat row, saturday clubs, bars or off campus parties.

Do you need to be 21 to get in to most places (bars and clubs)?

you have to 21 to go to the good clubs/bars but thats pointless since you won't be hanging out with your friends. 18+ includes opera which is fun, pure, moya, etc.

and nightlife aside, atlanta is a great city ot check out, eat dinner, etcc

i personally love it

and living next to decatur is a big plus

I'm a freshmen here-

there are four things to do:

1) go clubbing, this means you go out into ATL through an organized group event, or you have upperclassmen friends with cars.

2) frat row, get drunk or stand there and watch other people get drunk.

3) hang out in the dorms.

4) study

Unless you're a partier, you'll have a harder time finding your niche.

I'm a freshman here too, and I disagree with gkc4.

I'm not a big partier, and I've found lots of fun things to do every night. Emory runs shuttles to nearby malls and attractions and they usually stay out pretty late. So far I've been to Lenox mall (omg its gorgeous), been to the movies, went midnight bowling, went clubbing, went to an Obama rally, went to stake and shake, went to the world of coke and the aquarium, went to a concert, went to a multicultural festival/amusement park, and went to six flags. I had fun at all of these events. Also, never underestimate the fun you can have just hanging out around campus. My hallmates and I have had wignuts (a buffalo wings takeout restaurant) or dominos delivered to us and had parties in our lounges...(the food is free btw, cause you just pay with your dining dollars!). We also hang out at dooley's (a train station converted into a cool restaurant) or one of the restaurants in emory village. And there's always the plasma TVs in the lounges for movie marathons, TV, or Wii.

And those are just some of the activities for people who don't party! I know people who go out almost every night, and there's always something going on at frat row. There's also lots of clubs in atlanta that are close by and cheap to get to if you split the taxi fare. Seriously, there's social life here for everyone. I've only been here for a few weeks now and I'm already in love with Emory!!
