I filed the FAFSA early on 1/10/12. I sent the report to 3 schools. I just checked with school #1 and they report they are still waiting for it. Does anyone know about how long it will take for them to receive it? I realize the school has to process, but this school has been pretty fast to acknowledge getting our other documents. Maybe I'm jumping the gun here...I don't know what is reasonable.

Did you get a confirming e-mail? The confirmation e-mail once you submit the FAFSA comes fairly quickly generally within a week. You “signed” your FAFSA with your pin and one of your parents signed it with their pin? I do not believe the government SENDS the FAFSA to the schools I believe it is available for the schools to download. Go back and make sure you got a confirmation.

Thank you for responding. Yes, everything was signed, sealed, and confirmed. I am actually the parent, LOL. I guess I was thinking about the process wrong. I was imagining the SAR is “sent” to the schools similar to SAT results. What’s the point of submitting early if the school is not hurrying to download the results? Are we put in line based on our FAFSA submission dates?

Hi Debbie,

Funny that you mentioned SAT results… We “sent” my son’s ACT scores in mid-December, and got a message last week that one school still hadn’t received them! I think that the test scores work in much the same way - you send/submit them and the schools download them. Why it took a month for them receive them is strange.

I was wondering whether the date schools state for their FAFSA deadline refers to whether you must submit it by that date or if they need to receive them. Hopefully, someone with the answer to this question will chime in…

The real question is: Has the school that has not received your FAFSA started bringing in FAFSA’s for 12-13 yet? Many schools’ computer systems are not yet ready to receive the new FAFSA’s. The FAFSA may be ready to be loaded, but the school is not yet loading them into the system … we did not load this early at the public U where I worked. Call again & ask if any 12-13 FAFSA’s have been received yet. If not, you are fine. If so, this means there is another issue (usually has to do with social security, name, etc issues).

That’s my understanding, yes. First in - whenever they’re ready - first processed.
