another question: do I already have the pin? I created it, then it said it was going to do something . can I use it to sign the fafsa, or do we have to wait for some kind of response from king fafsa?

It has to go through the homeland security & social security administration checks before it is official. But you should be able to use it now to sign your FAFSA. Go ahead & do it … it will tell you if it’s not ready yet, and you can just save the FAFSA & go back to submit in a day or two. But I think that when you create your own PIN, it will let you sign now & then just automatically process when the “okay” comes through.

Just make sure you watch your in box … if you get a Student Aid Report that says your FAFSA is rejected, make sure you look to see why.

You should already have it, hope you wrote it down! It would have said “we will now verify your ss# and name blah blah you can only use it right now to sign the Fafsa”. Once it’s verified, you can use it for other stuff like signing your loan documents.

roderick - I thought you had done FAFSA before. Is this a PIN for a new student?

yes, a pin for a new student. i assume it is one pin per student, right?

Yes. Each student needs their own PIN.

and one fafsa / sar per student, right?

here is what fafsa says re the pin request that I made yesterday

so if I do not have a pin, can I still submit this?

I created a pin. It took like 5 seconds.

Roderick, I’m confused…if you are the parent and you’ve submitted the FAFSA before YOU (the parent) use the SAME PIN as for previous FAFSA submissions.

Each student has their own pin. You as the parent will use your same PIN for all of your children.
