I’m currently applied for a branch campus, but my status is still set to “under review.” I’ve been told that branch campuses often give out their decisions earlier; is this true?
You will usually get a decision earlier than the main campus. Which branch campus did you apply to? Some are busier than others.
I applied to Altoona.
My son received his Altoona acceptance last week via the portal and today received his admissions packet in the mail.
Are they still giving out admissions or is it likely I’ve been denied? I realize they probably can’t review everybody at once, so hopefully I’m just being a bit paranoid.
@ReeseJ1995 This is just the very start of the decisions with most of them still to come, so not hearing anything yet definitely isn’t an indicator of denial. Good luck!
They will still be accepting people at commonwealth campuses in the spring for late applications so no worries. You should be fine. Altoona gets a lot of applications because it is a nice campus close to UP campus and has a good reputation on it’s own right as a good school. Because of that, decisions may take a little longer than other commonwealth campuses. As wildfelix1 said, not hearing yet means nothing. They’ve only just started with decisions.
I’m guessing decisions aren’t given in the order applied then? I applied the very day applications for fall became available.
@ReeseJ1995 I’m not sure about decision timing vs dates of submission, but my son applied on 9/1 as well. It seems that Penn State is a bit random, just my opinion. I think if your stats fall within the Altoona range, especially mid to higher end then you should be fine. My son still has to wait until the end of January, though, for UVA decisions to be released as all of his other choices rest on that decision. And it’s crazy but he has a few friends who applied to BYU, and they won’t hear until early March in one lump sum (no trickling of decisions)…that is one seriously LONG wait!
@ReeseJ1995 In general, no. Penn State does not go in order of application received. Although last year, my son was one of the first to get an acceptance to Altoona and he was one of the first to apply. So in his case, it did work out that way - but mostly Penn State’s admission is random.
