Hey I was just wondering, how many b's any of you harvard-aceeptees have gotten in grades 9-11?

Yeah, I'm really curious too. I assuming about 8 max is okay is you take like all AP classes.

Bump!!! Come on you Harvard EA acceptees, reply!!!

8??? if thats true its sweet, i thought for sure it would be less

I don't know I'm a sophomore!!! Thats what I generally heard, IF YOU TAKE ALL AP CLASSES.

i'm a soph in MI 2, where do u go?

Novi High School, you? I play tennis too, maybe I know you.:)

I don't like Bs....they sting...

" I don't like Bs....they sting..."

LOL :) good one

i go 2 andover, but i used to live in novi!! (but up till 3rd grade)

still no responses?

I got in last year RD and I had 1 B and about 5-8 B+s. From freshman year to first semester senior year.

Although a B in AP is equivalent to an A in others, if you had been getting As freshman and sophomore year, you shouldn't believe that a B in AP is acceptable. You should still go for the A because there are still people who get As in APs.

ah i see, because i was having like problems this semester and got 4 or 5 b's (out of seven clases), PLUS i had two b's from last year. if i get all a's from this point will i still have a chance?

There are a few threads from a couple of months ago containing a link to a pbs video clip on admissions at Amherst. The committee there saw a student who had a "major slip" in grades during one semester... that slip was 3 B's (that's all she ever had. the rest were a's). Because of this, they denied her admission.

Try searching for the link.

I'm sure this is not always the case though. Don't give up hope!

o *, are you *ing serious!! i thought that explaining that i had some like outside of school problems would make them think more of the rest of my trans

5 Bs are a lot, but also, I think Amherst places more emphasis on SAT and transcript than do Harvard and other Ivys/Ivies because a student w/ perfect gpa/sat and nothing else would get rejected at Harvard but accepted at Amherst (not always, but you know).

Keep in mind they only see your final grades for each class.

But to answer the OP's question, I had 3 B+ final grades. On a 4.0 scale I had about a 3.8uw.

saxfreq, are you sure your gpa was around 3.8? or was it more around 3.9?
b/c w/ my 7 b's total at the end of junior year (a's pending) i will have a 3.85
btw, does 3.85 make me a competitive applicant?

I guess it depends on if you have As/A+'s, or A-'s.

Either way, Yes. 3.85 is competitive, but it won't be considered in a vacuum. Meaning, they'll consider your classes, the classes your school offers, your performance in relation to the people around you, etc.

My 3.8/1440 was competitive, I think, because I come from a school with an SAT average in the 900s and an average GPA in the low-to-mid 2.0's, and have taken all of the AP classes--five--that my school offers. But I can't say that my gpa/score will be competitive for someone from, shall we say, a more affluent, less urban community.

And don't neglect to seem interesting. Tht's the key part many people people seem to forget. Don't worry. Harvard knows who it accepts and who it doesn't; they can't make a case for the A/B student who's boring, but there's hope, I think, for the A/B student tht's darned unique, talented, and compelling. Best of luck!
