i keep hearing both 4 and 5. i know that the rule is at least 4 per semester, but i remember from somewhere that 4 is ususally the standard. i could be wrong though, but 5 sounds like a lot.

also, is it more common to start off as a u1 for non quebec residents? thx.

I called McGill recently, and they told me that it depends on what courses you are taking. The average is 15 credits per semester, and all courses have different credit values, so as long as you are taking 15 credits, thats the average.

Yes, 15 credits per semester is what you need to attain 120 credits (or 90 if you start in U1) in 4 years (or 3...), without taking summer courses. As most regular undergrad courses are 3 credits, that's 5 classes per semester. It's actually quite manageable if you know how to arrange a decent schedule...

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your other question.

The only way you can start off as a U1 student or higher if you're coming from outside Quebec is if you pass enough AP tests with high enough scores to amass 30+ credits, or if you get University credits from some other source (inter-University transfers, French Baccalaureate, etc.). Otherwise, you start off as a U0 student.
