For Stern, how many courses or credits are usual per semester?

as with the other schools, you need to average 16 per semester, and are allowed to take anywhere from 12-18 (you can take more but it costs you extra and you need a waiver, and overall its just stupid). If you have AP classes or plan on doing summer classes you can take less. If you are doing CPA, a cross school double major, or want to graduate early you may need to average 18 per semester or take summer classes. Once you get into sophomore year its hard to get exactly 16 a semester, damn near impossible by junior year. This is because of sophomore year statistics being 6 credits and MA being 2 credits, and people tend to take them seperate semesters giving you 18 and 14. Junior year you start taking major classes, which are only 3 credits for some dumb reason, which makes setting your schedule even more difficult.

Freshman year I'd stick with 16 both semesters, although I'd definitely transfer over any AP credits now, so that you can get earlier registration next semester (you'll see the importance of this shortly).

P.S. Stern only lets you take up to 16 credits 1st semester freshman year. I should know, I tried to do more and was shot down :

I took 18 credits my 1st semester (I am a rising sophomore). As long as you are willing to handle a slightly heavier workload, 2-extra credits shouldn't be too much to worry about.
