How many of you have taken classes online?

If you have, what was it for? Which website was it from and was the class of high quality (did you actually learn anything)? How much did it cost?

I think it would be useful to have a nice little list of websites on CC to take classes from.

I'll go first:

CTY, Honors Trigonometry for 3 months, approximately 600 bucks I think (I dunno, my dad paid =p) and it was okay, just basically a bunch of videos to watch and then take tests from.

Yup, I took Crafting the Essay, Writing Rules: Building Blocks, and Writing Analysis and Persuasion all through CTY. Writing Rules was way too easy and I regret taking it (at the time it was for 5th-8th grades, now it’s for 2nd-4th grades). Crafting the Essay was my favorite class, the instructor was great, she was a professor and author, and it was perfectly challening. Analysis and Persuasion was interesting but really, really hard. My instructor didn’t seem to like me very much but I did learn a lot. Class cost varied from $400-$800. I though those classes were far more worthwile than my traditional school classes.

All of my current classes are online. I’m content with them so far.

Some programming class, $27. Through a CC.

could you guys mention the website?

I currently attend Keystone.

In California.

I took Spanish online through WLAC for $25 or something. There are also transcript fees so it comes closer to $30

My school also arranged for me to take AP Calc and AP Stat online, and it was free for me.

I never have…I didn’t realize so many people did!

intro to java online through my local CC

I’ve taken all my classes online through Keystone for two years.

AP US History
AP English Literature
AP Environmental Science
Honors Geography
Honors English 3
Calculus
Japanese I
AP Economics
AP Biology
AP World History
AP Statistics
Creative Writing
Contemporary World Issues

They’re not the best experiences, but they sure as hell beat my public school option.

Because you took the equivalent classes at your public school too, right?

I took US History Honors, Spanish 2, and Economics Honors on FLVS for free (compliments of the taxpayers).

Didn’t learn ****.

Currently taking programming on FLVS as well, and I actually feel like I’m learning.

Never taken an online class, didn’t feel the need.

CTY:
Language: From Structure to Style (This was OK)
Crafting the Essay (Pretty good)
Writing Analysis (I stopped halfway through because I went on vacation and couldn’t catch up what with another real-life summer school trying to murder me through deprivation of sleep)
Chinese, all the way to Intermediate 3. I’m still taking it & I love the class.

It sucks that my school doesn’t take credit for any of this.

I went there for two years, knew the upper level programs, and took parts of some of those courses prior to departing my junior year. So, yes.

I took AP Art History and AP Microeconomics on FLVS

@applicanot:

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you leave your junior year?

can those posting please describe the quality of the courses? like if you took an AP course, did you feel sufficiently prepared to maybe earn a 5?

I got a 5 on both of the online AP classes I took.
