how many pets are at scripps?

hi, everyone. i’m new. i know the scripps policy allows fish and birds, so i was wondering… how many pets are there? do most people have them, or are they rare?

thanks (in advance) for taking time to answer.

Hi! I have seen fish but I don’t think I know anyone with a bird. I wouldn’t say pets are rare but I also wouldn’t say they are common. If you want to bring one, go for it! Just be mindful of how to care for it over breaks.

birds are rarer because you need to have the entire dorm to allow it, it’s because of allergies and that stuff. There’s a person with a dog in one of the dorms, but that’s due to special arrangement. If you really want your share of animals at college, join the animal shelter club or offer to walk your professor’s dog. That’s where most people get their fill. My roommate volunteers at West End weekly, where she plays with cats.

Fish are okay, it’s just between you and your roommate, I’ve seen them around. As long as you can fit it in your room - be mindful of plugs, too - you’re allowed to bring them.
