How many times do you plan to take the SAT? I keep hearing horror stories, 5, 6, 7 times! At what point do you simply plateau?

Once : P

… 10 chars.

I’ve heard that the highly selective colleges prefer no more than 3 times because they don’t believe scores can fluctuate much after that. It’s really a personal choice though!

Doesnt it make you look bad if you take it more than 3 times?

I took it twice last year and just took it again today. I’m 90% positive this was the last time, as I’m only trying to improve my math score.

Yea, basically the college will begin to want to look at your all your SAT scores if you take it around 3 or more times–you wouldnt want to let them think you are not a try hard. But it definitively depends on what college you are applying to. Ivy league usually wants to see you take it only 1-2 times. And for UCs its max of 3-4 I believe.

If take it more than 5 times, its a risk you are willing to take

I took it once freshman year as a diagnostic and once yesterday. I think I’m done.

People say taking it more than twice won’t help you, BS so long as you are determined you can improve. I just took it for the third time yesterday and I’m hoping to get a 2100+ :D. But four to five times I guess is for perfectionists, I’m not sure if colleges like that though.

There’s only a handful of schools that will know how many times you’ve taken the test, those that don’t participate inn score choice. All other schools will only see what you want to send them.

how would you study for another sat test (November) if u just took the October test?
would u just keep studying even tho u dont know ur score yet?

Max. 2. Had my first try yesterday, messed up the essay (ran out time), so a second try is guaranteed.

I’m taking mine twice and if I believe I can do better if I take it one last time, I’ll do it for a third time. But this is because I am horrible test taker and my grades fluctuate depending on how nervous I am, unfortunately. So study in between and if you don’t see yourself getting anything higher on your second try, you’ll be okay.

I have taken it once and I am going to take it again, from my understanding most individuals take it twice, however I doubt taking it more than 4 or 5 times would really increase any chances of doing better, however its all your decision if you think you could do better than take it again and again.
