How many UCs should I plan on applying to?

I think I'm on track to get all the pre reqs done for UCLA and Berkeley. I wrote down all the classes I need to take and it is very workable. I know I can do it and get a really high GPA.

My question is, since these are really competitive, (especially for psych!) should I have a safety TAG? Would I have squeeze in the prereqs for that school as well? All my semesters already seem pretty full with the UCLA and Cal reqs. Do you think let's say UCSC would see all the UCLA and Cal prereqs done and understand? Or are TAGs (safety schools) sticklers for prereqs?

Should I just gun it for UCLA and Berkeley and not worry about TAGing anywhere?

thanks

I would apply to any schools you would be willing to go to. If you TAG somewhere as a safety school but are shooting for UCLA or UCB, then I wouldn’t apply to additional schools, because the TAG is guaranteed. You just have to ask yourself if you are willing to go to that school should you not get in anywhere else. I am only applying to three schools because if those three rejected me, I would rather spend another year at community college then go to a different school.

That makes sense, Thanks!

Apply to most of them.

I would suggest that you apply to a majority of the UCs, save the ones that you know for a fact that you will never ever consider. You would be surprised at how many schools accept students who have only partially completed their pre-reqs (this varies on the profiles of other prospective students, how competitive the major is, how the rest of your stats look). I’d hate for anyone to apply to a few schools and find out that their admission decisions were not what they expected or if family emergencies and situations require more options than they have.

Apply away!

I’m going to TAG UCD and apply to UCSB. If I get accepted to UCSB, I’ll go there.

Thanks everyone

…and Sunburst,

I obviously can, and have figured out most of this **** on my own. I’ve spent hours and hours researching different majors and instituitions. Of course the posts I make and answers I get on here aren’t written in stone. You can’t believe everything you read on the internet! I just like posting and discussing to (a) clear my mind and to (b) get general advice from people who may know certain tricks of the trade. That’s all. I apologize if I come off as a pretentious college freshman. Trust me I’ve got my **** figured out. I’m an eagle scout and honors student. I don’t really have a GPA because I’ve only taken two college classes thus far (A and B, so 3.5ish). I’m four weeks into my first year at CCC and doing fine, and I am going to do great at a UC. I can’t help but post on here to gather info about little details like prereqs so I know what to expect when it’s transfer time. But thanks anyway.

Don’t let some of these people scare you from posting questions. This is why we are all here: To get answers. I sometimes post question that I already know the answer to just to get some perspective. I noticed some people on here are jerks sometimes.

Op, apply to all the Ucs. Collect those acceptance letters yo! Even if it is for a place you would never consider, that might change when they accept you and provide scholarships that the others don’t. It’s always nice to have an option to say yes or no especially since applying to other schools is based off of literally one click of a checkbox!

But to be fair to sunburst, most of the time questions like these can be taken care of by the search function.
