Im almost done with bio.. have to start us history next week..

I had to read Richard III, Gulliver's Travels, and The Sun Also Rises for AP Lit.

I am taking AP Physics, AP Env Science, and AP Lit next year. Luckily, my only work is for Lit.

Read:
The Awakening
King Lear
As I Lay Dying

And write about how each somewow relates to my life. Yup.

I have AP statistics, calculus, French and physics and not a speck of assigned summer work for any of them. It worries me a little that I won't be prepared for my math classes, as I had no math last year (not my idea--scheduling conflicts at a podunk public high school), but it's within my power to prepare on my own.

Well, I'm done with APs, but I start college in the fall and my professors are already e-mailing assignments. Well, I only got one so far... to read a book. Technically speaking, I could wait until school starts, but an assignment on it is due the second day of class. I'm not sure if I could finish the book in less than 48 hours, besides doing my other class assignments. So blech... Sneaky professors trying to steal my summer vacation...

Oh yeah, and at the bottom of the e-mail, my professor added, "I will be sending out another message soon for Chemistry 108 (another one of my classes)." Great. Just great. :-/

My school had Physics study sessions throughout the summer...

For AP Language and Composition, I have to read Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America and The Prince. I have to take detailed notes on both books. Then I have to write a 4 pape argument paper on The Prince.

I have to review AB Calc for BC and Physics C. Joy.

Calc BC: A “review” assignment. It’s not really review, though, because it’s basically slyly showing us the basics of finding derivatives and integrals (e.g. Draw 5 rectangles to approximate the area under this curve…). Too bad I already know derivatives and integrals, though…

My school gives a summer reading for everyone, which I’m halfway through reading, but I have a feeling we won’t do anything with it in AP Lit. Last year I read the summer reading for no reason because I took a Shakespeare class, and my teacher didn’t test us on it or anything because it had nothing to do with Shakespeare…

The other AP class I’m taking at school is stats, and there was no assignment for it.

Old topic is old. Anyway, my school starts Tuesday.

AP English Literature - read Cry, The Beloved Country and Things Fall Apart. Write an essay for each book. I’ve read both books, and I wrote one of the essays. I’ll do the other today.

AP European History - answer a huge (and, according to Internet search results, widely used) reading comprehension set on A World Lit Only By Fire. Write three essays about it. Completely done with this.

AP Chemistry - work through the first three chapters of the Hill/Petrucci textbook (we use a different textbook in class). It’s the basics of science and chemistry, plus stoichiometry. Completely done with this, but I still need to memorize a few polyatomic ions.

My other classes have no summer homework. Joy!

What is your method for memorizing polyatomic ions?

I only have AP Lit work. Basically have to read The Joy Luck Club, and Their Eyes Were Watching God, fill out some study guides, do some essays, and work on a practice AP exam. Not bad compared to my AP Lang work last year.

This question wasn’t asked to me, but I had to do this last summer for AP Chemistry, and trust me, it’s actually very easy. Repetition is the key to remembering polyatomics and atomic symbols.

Calc BC: Packet of about 70 problems I have to do. Most aren’t too bad, just really time consuming and I really dislike math sometimes.

Bio: Have to read and take notes on 5 chapters, answer questions in a packet based on the chapters. Read “Your Inner Fish” and do journal entries on every chapter. “Collect” 25 biology terms she listed. And sit and write down observations for 5 different spots of nature each at least 20 minutes in length.

Lit: Read a book and do this research project on it. I don’t really understand the research project part of it but luckily the whole project isn’t due til around a week after school starts.

Gov: Write an essay about a policy that the United States is enforcing. Find five articles to back it up. Its easy peasy, so I’ve been saving this one for last.

Spanish: 20 Conjuguemoses throughout the summer. Its the throughout the summer part I didn’t do too well with, I’ve done like 6 so far.

Senior: We need to have our service hours completed.

I’ve picked up most of them through patterns and sheer problem repetition. I’m going to use flashcards for a few others.

I feel a little bad for you guys. I’m going to be a junior, and don’t have any summer work for my 4 APs, took 2 last year, got a 4 and a 5. I’ve just been trying to relax and focus on PSAT/SAT prep. National Acheivement lets go! For the most part I feel that with decent work ethic during the school year, and a decent teacher, most APs are easily conquerable. Self-Study may be another story…
