$10,000 per year (academic excellence scholarship), 1400 SAT, 4.0 gpa (uw), out of state, honor's program, seems like a pretty good deal to me..

yeah, I just got the honors program packet in the mail...It really looks impressive. Uconn is often considered the top public institution in New England, so anyone invited into the honors program must be doing alright :)

I'm looking forward even more to my visit.

Yeah I really liked that packet too. I am doing the husky-for-a-day program next monday. I am excited for it.

UConn should give full tuition scholarships to top students, in-state and out-of-state. Out-of-staters still have to come up with >$20,000 after their top-of-the-line scholarships. There are other schools that will treat you better financialy if you are a top student.

Yeah, I definitely agree. It I got a full ride I would almost certainly go to Uconn

The governing body at UConn needs to redo their scholarship offerings for top out-of-staters or they're not coming. Even though public schools have limited wiggle room, UConn can borrow a page from Rutgers, TCNJ, et al, and find a way to make it attractive for top out-of-staters to come. Top out of staters can go to Ivy and be out of pocket only $12-13,000, not $20,000+ like at UConn.

UConn's Honors Program sounds fantastic. They usually send out a well done honors college brochure. Top out-of-staters would jump at the opportunity to attend if the net cost after scholarship weren't so high. If things remain as they are, UConn is going to end up with just CT residents. Maybe that's what they want.

Well most students here are from CT and the goal is to keep levels of CT students at 60% or thereabouts. They get enough top ranked students from in state in their minds i guess.

Yeah...I guess the idea of a state institution is to first and foremost educate the citizens of that state (after all, they have been paying taxes for a long time)

Anyone from Texas? Or do you know anyone from Texas that is going to UCONN??

There are people here from Texas, and most other states. I would say that I think most are likely sports players.

Is uconn good with need based grants (FAFSA)?

wow, i see that many of you have very high stats. have you guys also applied to any other (not to be rude) high ended schools? Uconn has great programs and it's a state university, so i understand that the money can be an issue.

Well reading this thread isn’t very encouraging. I’m first in my class and I just got the Academic Excellence scholarship (12,500 a year I believe), not anything higher.

This thread is from 2006.

Yes, it is.
