Has anyone had a drastic change between taking the SAT then seriously studying for it and taking it again?

300 pts between soph and jr years.

Wow, 300 points! DS’ score went up 60 points between spring of junior year and fall of senior year. I don’t know that he studied much more.

I improved my score 200 points without prep. I think if you have the motivation to study on your own, bypass the boring class, buy a couple for good prep books, and take a bunch of practice tests!

I studied using the Princeton Review 10 Practice Tests. It worked best for me to study one section at a time, and just drill question after question not paying attention to time. Some people say it helps a lot to go back and read the answer explanations for everyone question. I also used a book called “Hack The SAT,” it gives you some helpful and straightforward advice and a couple tips and tricks to make sure you don’t carelessly lose points. Very helpful.

Prep is overrated. If you can motivate yourself, you can design your own prep course using books and other SAT prep methods.

Math: around 200 points
Writing: almost none AHHHHHH
CR: around 200 points

1940 => 2230.
Junior PSAT => Junior (Jan.) SAT

hmm… improved over 700 pts~ but in actual result, only … 660 points~

1880 -> 2300 superscored.

680m -> 800m
640w -> 800w
560cr -> 700cr

my D’s ACT went 30 to 31 and for the SAT it went down 2000 to 1980… !! well it depends of how you will prepare yourself!

about 600 points :)

xypon, thats amazing! Im studying, so that hopefully I get at least a 2100 on the SATs. ( I got a 165 on PSATs)

well i did a practice test before i knew anything and got 1650 ish.
Then, about 8 months later i got a 2200

so about 550 points

Just out of curiosity, for any of those with the amazing improvement, was English your second language?

I went from a 1350 to a 1530 (on the 1600 point scale)

no english is my first language.

I went up a total of 100 points after doing all of the tests in the blue book

from 17sth to 2040

and I really recommend, like someone else mentioned, the princeton review practice 11s–and the cracking the SATs book as well.

taking a lot of practice tests helps, and the PR ones are almost harder than the actual, which really helps on the actual SATs–and the Cracking the SATs princeton review book is chock full of useful strategies that can really really help your score, even if you don’t have that much time to prepare.

english and another language are my “first” languages.
