As a high school student in New York, the regents are supposed to be the final exams for the high school courses we’re taking. There’s a distinction between the Regents Diploma and Advanced Regents Diploma, with the advanced being harder to get, but more impressive. The requirements for the Advanced Regents diploma are:
-Pass all 3 Math Regents
-Pass 2 of the four Science Regents
-Pass the English Regents
-Pass 1 of the two Social Studies Regents
To get an honor status on my diploma, I’d have to get a 90 or higher on all the regents I take. I’ve only taken 1 regents due to Covid, the living environment/biology one last year, and got a 93 on it. I’m planning on taking the English, Algebra 2, Chemistry, and US History ones this year as a Junior, and then Physics next year as a Senior. Although I’m glad to be challenging myself, will doing well on these exams help me out on my transcript? I’ve seen many articles and videos saying it’s useless, yet my school promotes the Advanced Regents diploma a lot. Will colleges be more impressed with me getting the ‘Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors’? Also, can I get any scholarships with SUNY/New York exams for doing well on these exams? Sorry for the long post, just want to see everyone’s opinion on these exams.
