<<< How much do you learn in your classes? >>>

So now that I'm actually sleeping a bit less in classes and paying attention once in a while, I'm starting to realize that maybe I'm not learning that much as I should be.

I'll break it down by classes, just attesting on the actual quality of the classes/teachers instead of the level of boringness (in which case, it'd be 10/10 for all of them) :

AP World - Actually, this isn't that bad, considering we do learn some stuff. Teacher isn't that bad. Pretty average IMO.
Precalc - Haven't learned a single new thing, basically. Rehash of AlgII/trig. No wonder why I haven't done a single problem correctly for hw, instead of bs'ing it by looking at the back of the book during science or something. Math skills have gotten horrible. Teacher's decent, but the inherent failure of the subject sucks.
Chem - incredibly basic, absolutely no need to do hw or pay attention but glance at your friend's notes 3 minutes before the test to get an A. Teacher isn't bad, but teaches only the basics and etc. Not learning that much.
English H - Not learning that much either. We've read...2 books in class so far. 2. I think we read less than the "Regular" classes. we pretty much don't do anything, a little writing/reading here and then.
French II H - Not really learning much here either...which sucks, since language pwns.
PE- The only genuinely baller class that I have no complaints for.

So basically, it's not looking good...lol.

I'm lazy, so less work may seem better (I've never done hw at home this year, except maybe like 3 times, also haven't opened my textbooks at home), and I shouldn't really have any complaints, as I like my 10 hours daily sleep and never having to do any work, but the school hours are killing me...all those hours that I could be doing something else that's more enjoyable, instead of wasting time. Since they outlawed my sleeping (got detention three times already), eh...for once I actually would prefer learning more quality stuff and making the classes more challenging, and actually envy you that go to really competitive schools and learn a lot of quality stuff daily with great teachers.

And the rest of you are welcome to chime in.

I never let my schooling get in the way of my education.

Free cake for anyone who knows the name of the quoted without googling it.

^ Mark Twain. Where’s my cake.

I knew someone was going to post something like that, in which case, it’s probably more my fault for not phrasing it greatly (I blame my lack of sleep, only 8 hours last night), but I thought it was clear that I intended this thread to be in jest and moreso in such a light (as a parody of these 100 new threads about their school, AP-IB, etc complaints)…

Of course, I don’t have it that bad. I’m playing around, as Aero was too. ;)

and lol @ mark twain I couldn’t get 3 pages past Huck Finn.

We made ice cream in chemistry the other day; I’m learning the most in chemistry.

English - reading various books and talking about them. I guess we don’t really learn anything but I still love the class.
History - yup. Very focused curriculum, readings every day.
Spanish - basically lots of vocab and listening/speaking practice, for the AP exam. So i guess so.
Geography - Jackshit. Lots of field trips and learning nothing at all (which is pretty awesome)
Calc - yes. Though she doesn’t really teach it, we have to teach ourselves
Physics - My teacher actually teaches.

My favorite classes are APUSH and AP Calc because I have amazing teachers and am actually learning so much. My other classes are far less intellectually stimulating.

Chem - Uh, I don’t know. I like the teacher and it seems that if you want to learn you’ll learn, but it’s a pretty laidback class. I’ve kept an A the whole year, but let’s just say I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten next to no preparation for AP Chem next year. Yay. : )

AP World - One of the two best teachers I have. Interesting lectures, strong curriculum. I think I can say I’ve learned a lot.

Journalism - LMAO. Bahaha. Yeah. This class doesn’t even need words. Moving on…

Spanish - We move way too slow, but he’s definitely a good teacher.

English 10 H - Total joke class. It’s the teacher’s first year teaching honors, and she informed us that because of our, um, liveliness, it is her last year as well. Oops, hehe. But seriously, I haven’t learned a single thing all year. She assigns us a bunch of reading for homework, and there’s usually a quiz the next day, but I have a great strategy, which involves me excusing myself to the bathroom during the period, breezing into the library and googling the chapter we’re on (bookrags.com <3), and coming back to the room and acing the quiz. There’s a general consensus that our teacher is a great person but a terrible instructor. It’s nice not having to do anything, but then I hear from my friends about their English teachers and how amazing their classes are, and it kind of sucks.

Algebra II/Trig H - Fantastic teacher. It’s really just my fault that I’m fairly lost. : )

I really don’t think I’ve learned that much this year at all. I’m not going to blame my “schooling,” because I know how lazy I am, but the fact is, my county (el oh el, my state) has a pretty crappy school system.

It’s not the small bits and pieces of information I’ve learned in class that have stuck. It’s the greater picture…what you learn about yourself and your interests. It’s the skills that you’ve learned while learning about osmosis and the quadratic equation.
That’s what’s really important.

Chem- not too bad, actually. Teacher halfway decent, but annoyingly energetic/ happy ALL the time. Like one day (no joke) a teen without a liscense rammed into her car and she wasn’t even mad about it. Actually learning a bit-but lots of busy work and a TON of HW

Precalc-ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Teacher is very nice, but I can NOT understand a single word that comes out of his mouth. Spend the whole time either texting/sleeping/doing work for other classes. Never learn anything. But he gives super hard tests, and I end up trying to cram a whole chapter the night before. What a nightmare. Almost never gives HW.

Newspaper: Uh, never do anything in the class. Great for eating popcorn though, bc there’s a microwave  Gets a bit stressful for deadlines.

WHAP: Oh horrors, horrors. Teacher either pops in a movie, or spends the whole class time making fun of students/ the world. Never lectures. But assigns so much notes and work I end up learning pretty much by osmosis anyways

Spanish: What a joke. Learn absolutely nothing. The teacher loves me though. If I don’t do my work/ do it shabbily, I just talk to her and she says, “Oh ok, no problemo I give you an A” No HW

English: Actually challenging. Thankfully have the best teacher in the whole school (the only good one). First time I’m ever learning ANYTHING in english.

I noticed that the only class in which I feel like I’m learning anything is my 1 AP class.

APUSH: Hahaha… I literally do nothing. I pretend like I am paying attention by staring at the overhead or doing other homework in that class.
Spanish 4H: Pretty much a joke… don’t really learn too much, but the tests/quizzes are not to be messed with.
Math 12H (Precalc): All that I can say is CHAIN IT BABY, LINDA!?!!? and HUMPIES. My teacher must be the weirdest creature ever. I just cram the night before and I do well in that class.
AP Lang: Lots of busy work being done, but overall, a very easy class.
SAT Prep: ■■■■■■■■… just took it for the 100.
Driver’s Ed: Samesies
AP Psych: We learn things SOMETIMES… but the tests are brutal.
Chem (H): Not too bad… teacher is funny… class is too easy though, so no SAT II’s.

Chem - Not too bad. I usually learn things in the class, but don’t understand or forget the other half over the weekend. But ususally the teacher goes over everything well to spark up my memory again.
Spanish - I learn what I need to to get an A/B in the class. The teacher apparentely hates all of his classes and students, so sometimes it’s hard to understand things since he doesn’t have any patience for us.
Trig/Pre-Calc - My teacher told our class that you don’t use anything you use in high school again. I can totally understand this after taking his class. The things we learn in here is definitely all school work and I have no clue why I would want to find the exact number of seconds to throw a dart from a ferris wheel on to a moving cart, or the height of a tree using the length of it’s shadow to figure it out, or any of that crazy stuff in real life.
Lang - I don’t think I’m learning anything new in this class at all. Last week we just went over correctly using quotes and how to cite sources in the MLA format, which I learned years ago.
Gov - I think I should be learning a lot in this class since the teacher is great and he goes over everything, but I really can’t understand or memorize anything historically so I’m learning nothing in here when I think I should be.
