I don't get an allowance; I take $50 every other week from my work-study paycheck for incidentals like movies, eating out, toiletries, and the like.

Monthly allowance? I get an $80 check from my dad each month to cover gas (I don't live with him). That doesn't count the money I get from work, which depending on how many jobs I can find for the month as far as tech support goes, is anywhere between $80 and $200. In the summer I should be making much more each month as I will have four or five slots open some days as opposed to one or two, plus I will have another full time job.

I spend whatever. Probably about 30 dollars a week, spikes happen when I have a lot of exams ( gotta buy red bull, delivery food, etc)

I don't get an allowance. my Loan is directly deposited into my bank account at the start of the semester so i'll have 7000 dollars sitting there at the beginning and it's up to me to budget everything myself.

Damn. Some of you get money from your parents. Cool. And some of you have to work for everything, including tuition. That's even cooler.

I'm not calling anyone rich or anyone poor, I'm just saying.

As for myself, I'll be lifeguarding this summer, to pay for spending money. My guess is that $1000 should cover the entire year (10 months, including August, December and May, which are usually only half the months), with $100 a month, or $25 a week.

To be honest. I don't know if I'll need $25 a week or not. I buy clothes from thrift shops (because I love them, and you can find some awesome stuff), I won't need to eat out (I'm getting a meal plan that covers almost all my food), and my only big vice will be going to clubs (I LOVE to dance). However, I don't drink much (I'm a transfer student), so that will cut down on costs.

My one big expense will be books, for personal use, and maybe Gothic Lolita clothes (I'm a big fan, but you have to be careful, as the clothing is extremely expensive).

But as this year will be my first time at a university, I don't want to work, so I can get adjusted to the atmosphere. Next year, I might go for an internship or something.

hey h_thealogian...i'm in the same situation. I'm starting college in a completely new setting (a much bigger one) so i'm very apprehensive at how much i'll wind up spending. I plan on taking 1 semester off work, then doing something part time in the spring.

You can survive pretty cheap if you want to.

I spend a decent amount of money on alcohol and ordering non-cafeteria food like twice a week. Even so I can get by on like 100 a month( only including personal expenses).

Books will drain a lot of money, don't forget about those.

KK06,

That's a good idea. I guess I'll see how comfortable I am once I'm at ECU and then move on from there.

I might get a job my spring semester, who knows?

I'd say on average $40. That doesn't include the few big shopping days at the begining of fall semester and again at the begining of spring.

it also depends on where you're going.....a student in NYC will need more money than a student living in the middle of Montana

don't forget monthly payments....phone bill, car payments, storage rent and whatever else that you will need,

and don't forget dues in any clubs or fraternity you might join and money for trips you may take....ex. amusement parks, clubs.

i know that it doesn't exactly answer your question but plan on bringing more than just a weekly allowance

and i saved up about $6,000 throughout HS and im wondering how long it will last.

Probably $30-$40 a week, not counting my bills/rent though. I live off campus and buy my own groceries cheaply. Eating out and drinking adds on to what you spend the most, its pretty easy to blow $20 at a liquor store or a restaurant.

Haha an allowance...I wish.

$50 shirts lmao. Damn you gotta figure out that expensive shirts don't mean much to anyone lol. U jus wastin money for nothin.

i'm gonna be an incoming freshman to college this yr. and my mom basically said she ain't buyin me a labtop, so obviously I gotta go find a job. Had one last summer, but quit it cause it was low pay. Haven't found one since.

But luckily, my uncle offered me a job to be an assistant to him in his plumbing company, so I'll be able to get extra money that way.

Plus, I got about 1,000 bucks saved from my job last yr. in my bank account as I don't really spend much of it, knowing that I will need it for college.

I honestly have no idea how much I spend: I have the money I earn and it lives in my bank account. I buy what I need/want when I want it. But most of the time all of my real needs are paid for via the meal plan and doing laundry at my house so I spend no money for weeks. And then it turns out I need to spend lots of money. Like last week I probably spent $100 dollars on stuff that I needed: dress pants because I was giving a formal talk on my research and I only had jeans, a pair of sandals that I can wear like sneakers, hand cream and , a transcript for a scholarship. But the few weeks prior to that, I didn't spend anything at all.

my parents are giving me $100 a month for whatever I want to do (party, going out, movies, etc)

plus I've saved up $2500 proly closer to $3500 after August... all in 4 years or so

I think it's important to take city into account, too. For example, the average Georgetown student spends about $90 a week (per campusdirt). Is that because Georgetown kids spend a lot, though, or because Washington, D.C. is ridiculously expensive?

I spend about 100-120 a week (I'm still in high school) should I plan on spending more or less in college?

Drew -- yes, definitely. Haha.

100 a week? Think about that. That means you'll have spent about $1,000-$1500 by Thanksgiving.

I think ur insane.

I'm not exaggerating. From my job, I make from 70 (low) to 150 (high) a week. And I spend all of it, mainly on gas (about twenty to thirty a week) and I like to pay for part of my car insurance (if I don't I feel like a leech). In addition to that I go out a lot and I buy a lot of books, CDs, and DVDs.

i spend maybe 30$ a week at most, 50$ if theres something special going on.

and i really dont understand how some kids go through like 100$ a week or more than 2000$ a semester, after buying the necessities (books etc.)...craziness....
