How much does a withdrawal hurt?

Hello, I'm contemplating getting a withdrawal from one of my classes this semester and was hoping that someone could shed some light on if and how bad it would be for me.

Currently, I am double majoring in accounting and management information systems with a minor in history and I have a 3.72 GPA.

When I was a freshman trying to figure out what I wanted to do I signed up a variety of classes; upon figuring out what I wanted to major in I withdrew from a class that was a pain in my side. It was a science class that had a one credit help session with it, by withdrawing from the science class I by default withdrew from the help session this created 2 withdrawals on my transcript.

Now I'm a second semester junior and I'm contemplating withdrawing from another class because I took an extra class this semester to try and lessen my load for my senior year but there is just too much work and I'm getting left behind. This class isn't part of my major but it is part of the Gen. Eds. for my college, and I plan on making it up in the summer anyway.

I have two withdrawals (arguably one) from my second semester of freshman year, and now I'm contemplating getting another my second semester of junior year because of a packed course load. How bad would having three (arguably two) withdrawals hurt my chances of obtaining work or going off to grad school?

Thanks

Honestly, it may depend on how the withdrawals are described on the transcript. In principle, these do not matter at all. After all, we change our mind about courses for a variety of reasons. But at many colleges a “late” withdrawal is marked differently than an early one. Some transcripts put a mark of “WD-Passing” on them if you are passing the course but decide to withdraw in time. That really can’t harm you if you keep up your grades and are making normal progress toward your degree. So check into how the WD’s are recorded and reported. Possibly your school’s Registrar will give you this information.
