My class is extremely competitive and even though my grades are good, my class rank is porbably about 24 in a class of 115. Is this going to ruin my chance of admission or does it not matter that much?

Your class rank is fine. Don't worry about it. Do worry about keeping your grades up, writing a good application, and scoring well on standardized tests.

Are you sure my class rank is fine? I don't think my school has ever sent anyone to Emory, though I know one person got into Oxford College a few years back. My grades are good not phenomenal, my SATs are far above Emory's mid range, and i like my essay. So a bad class rank wont affect me?

I don't think your class rank is necessarily bad for Emory in light of the fact that you say you attend a particularly difficult high school. I guess it depends on how truly difficult your high school is. In any case, having a GPA above the mid range and test scores above the mid range speaks well of your chances.

For Emory:
90% in top 10th of graduating class
98% in top quarter of graduating class
100% in top half of graduating class

90% in the top tenth? seems like they care about class rank a lot. ****.

i havent posted on here in awhile. so hello again.

Emory has a very holistic application process. They really do read everything you send them, and everything is taken into account. They are most concerned that you took a difficult course load for YOUR HIGH SCHOOL. If you had 2 AP classes, they're not going to care that you didn't take 4, becuase that would be impossible. Good grades in the classes that you took are very imporant

That being said, your class rank reflects how you did in comparison to other students in your class; however, since there are so many more components to the application, strong essays, recs, specialization and success in ECs, good test scores, etc. can outweigh being in only the top 20% of your class. 10% of all students weren't in the top 10% of their high school class. Do well this semester and send them a new transcript, and you'll have a great shot. And make sure you demonstrate interest.

None of us are on the admissions board. Do everything that you can and then leave it up to them to make the decision. Your grades are good enough that you will get into a good school. Don't over-analyze it.
