How much does it hurt

How much does a bad rank take you down at the Ivies? Right now, I'm probably around the top 20% (out or 180 kids at a medical magnet school), and have like a weighted GPA of like a 95 something to 4 decimal places (with the hardest courseload, of course). I'm involved in a lot of state competitions and am Hispanic (if that helps). I took the SAT today, and I think I did decent (~190).

Thanks!

Lol........"your kind"

I'm a urm with a 20% ranking. I'm a Penn rejectee/jhu waitlistee. You never know truthfully. You could apply to every ivy and get 8 acceptances or 8 rejections. who's to say.

Top 20% with a 1900 SAT won't get it done at the Ivies, even with URM status. Sorry.

What about 2000?

SAT IIs=2100

Ranking sucks....

Don't add up your SAT II's. Consider them individually like colleges do. General perception is that 2250+ SAT I is great for the Ivies (or at least ideal).

Well I don't know about the SAT IIs, but it's a good predictor. Probably: Math IIC=750+, US History=700+, Literature=650+

Would this 20% rank get me into Stan?

your SAT reasoning HAVE TO BE above 2200+ in order to pass the ivies' academic standards, in fact 2200 is simply the "average" SAT scores at the ivies. Many seniors who applied to HYP got rejected with superb (2300+) SAT scores and great ecs.

Darn......

As an URM, if your SAT is high enough, you might have a shot.

what is "high enough"

What do you actually want to do, buddy? Maybe one or two of the Ivys are right for you. Fine. But don't just go looking for a name. I bet that you could get a better education in your desired field at more schools than you can count.

are you still a junior? I'd kill to still be a junior. Go take the SATs again! GO!
