They take away loans and work study first, before they take away any grants (if at all).

I applied for FA, but I never heard back. Should I call them?

CAS scholarship: $19K
Work Study: $4K
Loans: $33K

Is it good or not, guys?

My EFC = 0

So you have to pay all this money back to NYU AFTER you graduate?

My DS only got unsub Stafford from NYU.

Got Merit money from everywhere else.

EFC and what you can afford in the real world are not the same.

NYU is not happening for him. He is releasing his place for someone else who can afford it.

NYU - D is a bit disappointed. NYU award can not hold a candle to what American, TCNJ, Northeastern, U of Maryland or Rowan offered. She had hoped her decision would be between NYU and American but with this, not even worth comparing.

First year (does not mention add’l years)
CAS Scholarship $4880
Federal Work Study $4,000
Direct Stafford Loan $3,500
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan $2,000
Direct PLUS Loan $41,686

Some of the previous posts worry me as some folks don’t seem to understand that all loans need to be paid back and coming out of undergraduate school with $150,000-$200,000 in loans is an amount of debt that will be very difficult to get out of.

Hopefully, turning this back will give someone a shot at a bit more scholarship funds.

EFC = 0

LS Scholarship = 11k
Provost Grant - 1k
University Grant - 3,620
ACG Grant - 750
FSEOG Grant - 4k
Pell - 5,500

Direct unsubsidized stafford - 2k
Direct PLUS - 20k

What part of my mom has been cyclically unemployed for 2 years and we survive on government aid does NYU not understand? How is she supposed to handle an 80k debt and I have to take on 40k?

Not worth it IMO. And with the USC/UCLA rejections, its community college for me this fall.

Has everyone who applied for FA heard back already?

You get it with your acceptance package

Is it going to be impossible for me (LSP student w/ EFC=0) to have less than 10k a year in loans? I’m just scared that if I have more than 40,000-60,000 in loans after college i’ll be screwed because the med school bill is gonna pile right on top of that like crazy!

@sinceredesichick

I doubt you will have less than $20,000 in loans per year.

I have 5k personally a year and my mom has 20k. So 25k/year for my family.

hmm. haven’t even gotten my FA package…but looks like I won’t be going to NYU :(

Same, Santa Monica Community here I come!

My daughter, who has dreamed of NYU for years, got the financial aid package/letter today. The cost for Tische is $60,000/yr. Basically she was offered a grant of $4,000/yr. That will cover the cost of transportation from Southern Calif. for a year and not much more. There is no way she can graduate with $224,000 in debt no matter what great interest rate they offer.
What’s up with this NYU? All the money in the world and this is how you treat people?

EFC: $226.00
Grant: ~$26,500
Loans: ~$26,500
College of Arts and Sciences

NYU should just stop loans. But I don’t think they could shoulder that … Maybe in a hundred years.

Not worth it IMO.

220k in debt, thats 5k a year until retirement. Though nobody will have 5k spare a year at first and the interest will start to pile on itself and who wants to be paying off their own student loans when they have their kids’ loans to work on 20-30 years after graduation. Personally my mom can’t help AT ALL, that means I have to take on all my debt and my field of interest (public service) isn’t going to pay me enough to pay 100k in debt and whatever my 1-3 kids will need.

It’s really interesting to see that no matter what, no more than half of tuition and other expenses is covered by pure grants/scholarships. NYU just won’t let go of more money.

What the heck? I got my acceptance package, but nothing related to FA.
