How much is the full cost for next year???
I know the 2009-2010 tuition and everything, but have they put out the 2010-2011 year pricing?

Liberal Studies Program Scholarship - $7500
Chancellor’s Grant - $2000
Perkins Loan - $2400
Stafford Loan - $3500
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan - $2000
Work Study - $4000
Plus Loan - $31000

Then I’m getting a low cost triple which cuts the price by about $4000-6000 depending on the dorm.

It is manageable for us only if the 2 scholarships are for the 4 years. I haven’t gotten a straight answer about that yet. NYU financial aid offices are quite busy
To be honest with you, she got better packages from 2 other schools but NYU is her “dream” school.

@ stohare2010
2010-2011
$56,039 estimate

The scholarships are for all 4 years. I called and asked in the winter when I got acccepted :)

That’s good to know, stohare2010. It would be very unattractive to accept a FA that helped you the first year with scholarships and left you hanging the other 3 years.

@daughtershelper - exactly how I’m feeling right now… I emailed and asked if there were any way to appeal my package. :/

Wow. These packages aren’t giving me much hope for good FA…

do certain schools within nyu give better packages? i have an efc of 0 and the idea of that much in loans is quite daunting.

@dinosgomoo

I think the FA is for the school as a whole. I don’t believe they are different, apart from the specific scholarships given (Tisch, whatever).

Remember, Work study only means they are eligilble. Student has to go out and find a job and hope she gets paid. They do not deduct this from the tuition.
My daughter also received a WS FA award, but she has yet to find a campus job and she has been there 2 years, so that 4000 is really coming out of her parents pocket.

$4000 seems like a ridiculous amount in work study…

I would actually say $4,000 is doable. Seems the best way to make it work is for the student to work during college. NYU students can take advantage of the location to do so.

can one accept direct plus loans without a parent?

There are no PLUS loans for just students in undergrad.

Also, does early decision get work study first?

Steinhardt Scholarship = $10,110
Federal Work-Study Eligibility = $4,000

Direct Stafford Loan = $3,500
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan = $2,000
Direct PLUS Loan = $36,456

Total Awards: $56,066

I have 26,500 in loans.

My EFC is about $2000.

Stern Scholarship $3,500
J. Eckhouse Scholarship $5,000
Provost’s Grant $4,000
ACG Grant $750
FSEOG Grant $4,000
Pell Grant $4,000
NYS TAP $3,600
Federal Work Study $3,400
Stafford Loan $3,500
Unsub. Stafford Loan $2,000
PLUS Loan $22,761

Total Awards: $56,511

This package is nothing like what I expected, in a good way. I only expected like $30k.
I’m so happy! I’m going to make up for the enormous amount of loans with outside scholarships hopefully!

liberal studies program scholarship- 10k (really surprised about this…wondering if it was based more on fin. need than academic merit)
work study- 4000
42000 in loans.

so basically im guessing i dont have to pay anything until i get out? im not sure how i feel about this. i didnt get any grants so im probably going to be swimming in debt when i graduate. ugh.

What exactly do they mean when they say that if you receive outside scholarships, your aid package may be adjusted? Will they take away whatever amount you received from a private scholarship from loans or from grants/scholarships?

My EFC = 0

CAS Scholarship = 11,000
Provost’s Grant = 1,000
University Grant = 3,300
Expected ACG Grant = 750
Expect FSEOG Grant = 4,000
Expected Pell Grant = 4,600
Federal Work - Study Eligibility = 4,000
Direct Stafford Loan = 3,500
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan = 2,000
Direct PLUS Loan = 21,916

Total Awards: 56,066

Why didn’t I get the full Pell Grant if my EFC is 0? Should I call about that?
Also, what is FSEOG Grant? Is that from the government?
