How much financial aid did you get?

I'm applying this year, and the amount of money I get from FASFA will dictate whether I'll be able to attend.

Base on your past experience, how much money did you get and what was your household income (low, medium, high, etc.)?

If there's other sources of financial aid you received, feel free to put it here too :)

In the end, how much did you have to pay for a semester?

Thanks for all input!

Household income: about $150k
Need based grants: none
Need based loans: $20,000 (they will give you loans if you want them)
Other financial aid: $22,000 in merit-based scholarships
Total cost: -$2,000 per year (yes, they owe me money)

^ is that all from national merit scholarship?

$20k loans - a year? Your total cost a year is $20,000 not - $2,000. That is a horrible amount of loans. You are going to owe $80k plus interest at the end of 4 years - ouch.

No, National merit is only $13k over 4 years at UT. I got $84k in scholarships in 4 years--one other UT scholarship and 3 outside scholarships.

And no I'm not going to owe anything because I got more scholarships than the cost of education. The only thing I'll owe is a bit of income tax. Had I not gotten the scholarship, I still wouldn't have taken all of the loans because my parents can afford to pay quite a bit in cash. I probably would have accepted the Stafford loan (which my parents would have paid for) and rejected the PLUS loan.

But luckily I don't have to worry about that at all.

theloneranger, how many scholarships did you apply to to get that much money?

One $52k Dedman Distinguished Scholarship, a $13k National Merit package, an $8k IBM Thomas J Watson Memorial Scholarship, an $8k YMCA of Metro Dallas Scholarship, and a $1k Hispanic Heritage Youth Award. So it's actually $82k, with $22k thus far for the first year and $20k for every subsequent year assuming I keep my grades up.

family income $105K
aid after fafsa for the fall and spring semester combined $3500
i got a grant for $2500 and a scholarship for $1000
It'll cost me $3k per semester and thats cuz im living at home
and books were about $500 a semester

family income: 80k
scholarship: 18,000/year.
smart + minority = $$$
