How much hw do you do?

Just wanted to get an idea of how much homework people do on here.

I've *extremely rarely/I done hw once outside of schooltime in my previous years that I can remember (maybe except for a project or so), this year, I've done it about 3 times at home which took less than 10 minutes; I average around a 40-50% in the hw categories of grading (miraculously, I consider that high, I had like 20%'s and ones in the single digits before), mainly because of passing periods, and I do them during other classes, such as chem hw in english.

I'm trying to steadily improve it but it hasn't been working, and I'm pretty sure many others on here are in the same track as I am.

Couple hours (4-8); depends on the day.

I’m the same way. I’m really bad about homework. I usually am only assigned busy work.

Let me add an additional question: how do you guys, that actually spend time at home or whatever (a good amount, at least 30 minutes to an hour a day or so) doing hw, how do you find the motivation to do it? I’ve tried and after sitting in front of my desk for literally 3 minutes I feel hungry, thirsty, wanting to play games, sleep, etc…lol.

I’m asking because I intend to keep a 70-80% next year (because apparently it’s worth a significant portion of grades), which is really difficult but not impossible, hopefully.

hmm… it depends what subjects I have, since I have block scheldule.
on 123, days I’d have about 1 hr of homework for chem. Not that that counted, because I we had solutions manuals, so I never actual did it, I just copied.
on 456
probably ~1-2 hrs, just because of how long it takes to take notes for WHAP

How do I do it? I have no idea. I just do, if you know what I mean, kind of without thinking about it. It’s like a mindless task. I’d say I’ve trained myself to do it, so it’s kind of 2nd nature now…come home, sit down, do hw.

But I totally have the same problem for real studying (as in cramming). I really can’t study, I get so distracted.

Never. I don’t get much HW, so I can either BS it or do it in class. I’m really good at doing homework VERY quickly (although not that well). I do my projects at school to. :p

the first semester was 2-3 hours a night. second i usually didnt do it at home. the first semester it was legitimate assignments that were beneficial and also too enough time that i oculdnt do them in shcool. the second semester i had different classes and the assignments were a lot of little things that could easily be done in first block. sometimes i had to do it at home.

my motivation comes from a couple things. 1. drive to succeed. im pretty competitive, and i want better grades than everyone else. 2. college. gotta have those grades. to get the grade, you gotta do all the little things because if you dont, those little things will add up and hurt a lot. 3. family pressure. i dont get direct pressure, but both of my sister were extremely successful in school and i have been up until now. so im trying to keep up with them. also to make my parents proud. they were overachievers too, so the bar is pretty high. 4. reputation. i have a reputation from my family, but also from myself. so ive got that to maintain by getting good grades and stuff. i also pride myself on being a hard worker, and i think thats something other people see in me. it helps to get appointed positions.

a quote i like that motivates me to do the little things is this:
“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.”
-Colin Powell

Another one I found while looking up the exact wording of that one that I also like:
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
-Colin Powell

I do nothing now that the year is over;)

During some time periods, I get into doing my HW at school, but that’s always only math. All other HW is always done at school. Well, maybe I’ll do 10 minutes of it in school, but 95% is done at home.

Math: 1 hour a day. But I’m done with math classes since I finished Calc BC.
Histories:Usually 1 assignment a week or every week and a half that takes 3-5 hours. This is only for more serious APs like APUSH and AP Art Hist. APUSH is always 4 hours, Art Hist can vary. AP Human involves a 10 minute assignment like every other week.
Sciences: haven’t done this in a year, but usually 30 minutes 3 times a week. I haven’t done AP science yet (haven’t done science at all since 10th grade) so maybe it’s more then.
So normally I have 1 hour of HW a night. I could divvy up the history homework, and sometimes I often do it half one day and half another actually. Usually, I do it on the weekends, so I don’t do math HW at the same time.

I’m sort of weird about homework. The one time I forgot my homework in elementary school was when I was in 5th grade. I was so upset I became ill and had to be sent home. So it’s pretty easy for me to “motivate” myself. Not doing homework is like the ultimate shame, basically. My parents never told me anything like that, so I have no idea where I got the idea from, but that’s how I feel.

For AP English last year, we read 31 assigned books. For each of these 31 books, we wrote one AP Practice Essay, one literary analysis essay, and completed one 38 question practice AP Multiple choice Packet. In addition to these books, we also had to select 5 INDEPENDENT READING novels each semester. And for each of those novels, we had to write our own multiple choice AP tests, and do a powerpoint presentation for two of them. So in total, the year consisted of 41 books, 62 essays, 31 MC packets, 4 powerpoint presentations, 10 self created 38-Q MC packets, and other random crap.

Back to the OP’s question: 6-7 hours a night for that class. For a flipping C+ first semester and C second semester.

1-2 for everything else.

Was not fun.

Typically I do not work that hard.

EDIT: For that English class, 97 kids enrolled in it first semester. Only 53 returned for 2nd semester.

none…

…because it’s summer!

I do all of my homework every day. I can’t stand leaving any homework incomplete, I feel so guilty when I don’t do it. If I don’t finish it and fall asleep instead, I do it at lunch the next day or find some other way of finishing it before the class that it’s due in. I usually do most of my homework at home and finish some of it at school.

Typically between one to three hours a week.

Depends how much I care about the subject matter. In a math or science class (Besides Biology) I’ll actually do it, either at home or the next morning while waiting for class to start. English or History I will put it off until last minute (If a project) or just scribble something down on the paper in the class if it’s a worksheet that needs turned in. This year I didn’t do a single worksheet at all in History (It was fine because the teacher doesn’t care and doesn’t take any grades besides tests).

What’s homework? :)

haha. Shall I rephrase the question?
How much hw do you do each night, and what grades do you still maintain in your classes?

Because I’m getting an inferiority complex (figures…this is CC). I’d die for 1-2 hours of hw every night. I get A’s but I spend around 3 1/2 hours every night. 2 hours longer if there’s an english essay. 1 hour longer if it’s a history essay. This is freshman year by the way.

Wow, that’s just slightly ridiculous…

Normally it’s 4-7 hours but because of finals it was been more like 5-8 hours

@Hotivy - wow.

I do homework during easy classes. Then if I have extra I spend 1-2 hours doing it at home.
