How much is one C going to hurt you?

I have a C in one of my classes this semester. My UW GPA will probably be around 3.7-3.8ish. I will be in the top 10%. I'm planning to apply to Duke and Ivies. Am I totally screwed?

It’s a C in AP Comparative Government btw, which is unrelated to my major

For Duke and Ivies - probably screwed, unless you have a really awesome hook that cannot be ignored! I think that it being unrelated to your major is irrelevant - my lowest SAT score was in math and I made it clear that my interests surround writing…still got rejected. But hey, if your heart truly belongs to one of those schools, apply and see what happens. Just make sure you have a long list of other schools you love just as much.

Does anyone have any success stories relating to bad grades?? My sched was too extreme last yr so I kind of ruined my life…Eventho I had stellar grades first 2 years of HS…HELP

If you can raise your grade somehow, try to do that. Also: a C is a B weighted, so it can’t be that bad. If you take the AP test and receive a 5, that can also help. (If you’re on the waiting list or some such thing)

just apply, you never know. I got into ithaca and i didn’t tink i would

I got an 80%(1 point from a D at my school.) every marking period in 10th grade for AP Bio, and a 2 on the test. I got into Carnegie Mellon for Electrical and Computer Engineering(SAT scores were also lower than 50th percentile for this school, besides SAT reading. That includes SAT subject tests.)

Thanks guys. But this is seriously freaking me out.

Well maybe if its a marking period grade ( and not semester) certain universities may never know you had a C.

Cs are not very good especially when a lot of the people applying have all As and get rejected. Good luck though. Just try your best for the rest of the time.
