USAFAbound...

verbally accepting a CLS scholarship from a ROTC det. and actually waiting to hear from USAFA is a smart tactic... but a very risky one.

I am extremely confident in saying that if the COC / Admission officer at the ROTC det. that offered you their ONE AND ONLY CLS scholarship they would resend it ASAP.

Each ROTC detachment can only give out one CLS every admissions year... so by looking out for yourself (which is not a bad thing...) could potientially cost another aspiring young American their goal.

FACTOID : In my observation ( I was offered a CLS but declined it before I knew I got in to USAFA, my #1) the CLS is reserved for students with great ROTC cadet potiential but might lack the credientials to get into that particular university. Again, only one CLS scholarship can be awarded every year.

So... Congrats on your achievements but just think about what you're doing... you could potiential have a "mess" on you hands.

Please talk to the officers at the ROTC detachment about your situtation.

The only reason I took the scholarship is because of what he told me. "everyone had the chance to work as hard as you did and accomplish what you did. you went the extra mile and here is your reward."

He is right, I busted my ass for four years and if someone would have worked harder than me they would have deserved it more. All I'm trying to do is accomplish my goal. Become an Air Force Officer.

I see where you are coming from and from what I am told I am a very strong candidate, like my ALO said, the best he had ever seen, but even though he told me this I still need the back up plan incase the Academy does not come through.

It sucks that I might be holding someone back, but everyone has the chance to get where they want to be.

And yes I know I might have a mess on my hands if I go to the Academy considering they will not get the scholarship back if i go. They lost it once before with someone going to the Academy and I hate to do it to them again. But its the risk im willing to take to get where i want to be in my life.

Not sure what to say...just tread lightly, I suppose. And don't think that just because you are the best, you're the only one who deserves a chance.

At the same time though, if you worked harder than anyone else, maybe you do deserve both chances. I'm not the person to decide that though.
