How long should it take?

My son received an LOA on 10/24. He received notice of his Nomination from our Congressman on 11/30. His online application still does not show that they received the nomination info, nor that an appointment was offered. My son called his admission counselor, who said that sometimes it takes a while to get info from the congressman’s office. We called the congressman’s office, and his aid said that all info was sent to the Academy (2 weeks ago) because VA likes to ensure that no one gets duplicate nominations if at all possible so more VA kids get a chance, which means they have to wait until beginning of January when the Senators have a chance to look over it all. He said that in his system, it said that my son’s status says “appointment offered”. That was a week ago. How long should it take for the online status to change and for him to get his appointment letter? Son (and his family) are very anxious to see this (almost) final step occur. Thanks for your advice, in advance.

I am sure it will not be much longer. It was about this time last year when Potterfans appointment was extended. Things seemed to be different, and the same for most of the CC crowd last year. The politician would call, the white envelope would arrive, the online statement would change. Some saw things happen in one order, and others occured slightly different. Don't worry it will happen soon....now you can plan on Orientation, setting up banking, buying the approved boots etc... You really should look at making orientation reservations because the availabilty of hotels and flights will dwindle soon.

For orientation your son will be able to shadow a C4C or other chosen cadet and spend the night. Many of the CC cadets look forward to the opportunity to host your cadets. There were dinners held last year for each orientation group at local restraunts. You and anyone else who comes along can suffer through the endless AF briefings. They are endless.

mom of hopeful: my nominations appeared on the website ~a week after my congressman and senators told me i had them.. got my loa ~ week after my congressman told me i'd be getting one.. got my appointment ~ week after my LOA. status changed to appointment offered AFTER i got my white envelope. so, it really can happen any way :)

"You and anyone else who comes along can suffer through the endless AF briefings. They are endless."

haha, now you know what cadets have to live through!

But seriously, don't worry about the white envelope or the online status. If you have the nomination, and you had an LOA, you should get the white envelope pretty soon. As for the online status, it generally is changed AFTER you receive it (not sure why, but that's what happened to me).

As for Orientation, I highly recommend it to anyone who has not previously visited the Academy. Although it's post-recognition, and thus more relaxed, the Appointees get to see the Cadet Area, and get a basic idea of what life is usually like (at least in April). And I'm definitely planning on coming to a CCer's dinner in the 'Springs. We should hopefully have more than two Cadets there this time too... ;)

I too look forward to the annual CC dinners. Third year too! Tradition I think?

Thank you all very much. We will keep our eye out for the large white envelope. Does anyone know the orientation dates yet? We are definitely planning on attending both the orientation and the CC dinner.

orientation dates:
april 14-15
april 21-22
april 28-29.. these are all monday-tuesday; most arrive sunday or earlier; leave tuesday evening (5 or after) or wednesday

Usually have the CC dinners each sunday before.

Falcons (JS) trust me the briefings have only just begun. After twenty years of them, they run into one long unending briefing.

I never quite understood why they were called "brief"ings when usually they are not brief at all!

For Orientation, I assume most of the agenda items are for the incoming students. What do the parents do? Tour the campus, visit a class??

I believe the parents have a tour that they go on around the campus.

The parents sat in the full day briefing with a lot of differant speakers, short films, cadets speakers and had questions and answer time for one long day. My husband and I were both happy we went as it was very informative.
Our tour day was cancelled due to a blizzard.

Yeah the blizzard we sat on I-25 for four hours. We were staying in Denver with family, and left Sara to spend the night. Next morning snow everywhere.

Well, let's just hope that doesn't happen this year...currently, we've got a blizzard that makes going anywhere pretty interesting (well, I guess calling it a "blizzard" depends on where you're from though...).

blizzard = 1cm of snow or more for me :)

Hahahahaha, last year we had a record blizzard for October--18 inches. We also enjoyed the first snow day here in 3 or 4 years.

geez... i'm entering another world come june 26.

Off topic with blizzard conversation, but in AK we never had a closing (44" in a weekend was no big deal), however there were delayed openings for bears and moose on the school path :D

The problem was that the teachers and Mitchell hall workers couldn't get up here. The combination of retarded CO drivers on two/four lane roads with the icy hills prevented people from making it. My comp sci teacher ended up sideways and stuck in his 4WD truck trying to ascend the ramp to the parking areas.
