I was curious to know how long it took from the time you completed your file, to the time your appointment was offered. I finally completed all my stuff a week ago and am anxiously waiting! While I realize that it will vary person to person, I am just trying to get a feel for how long (or short) it could be.

Well, it depends on if your nomination slate is completed. As an example, no cadet from your nominating source could hear because all 10 get a WCS and the highest score is the person nominated. Since you just finished last week all of the applicants, unless they had an LOA would not have heard yet. Now if there are other people on the slate who have not completed, you will have to wait until their file is completed and they get their WCS. If you were the last from your slate/slates, than you can hear pretty quickly. The AFA regional director said 90% of the appts. occur in March, so you should hear pretty soon.

Not a problem...maybe you want to post what state and how many noms, to quell the nerves of the other candidates from your state...it will at least stop them from checking their application status everyday

like bullet said, about 90% get appointments in march. only a few hundred get LOAs and early appointments.. i finished all of my stuff in mid-october, had a few snafus, and got LOA/ appointment within a week of each other in december. it really depends on the competition in your district and your file

After having to turn down an AFROTC four year scholarship from my second choice school (If I accepted it that meant I would also have to give up on the AFA), that white envelope can’t come soon enough!

Students who choose to go to traditional universities have it so easy. Us service academy hopefuls have to plan for two completely different futures. At this point I have no clue where I will be in 4 months. I know where I want to be, but I guess only time will tell.

Until then I know one thing for sure – the mail box will be my first stop everyday after school!

You turned down a school already? Did you have to? Ive gotten my appointment and dont plan on notifying schools until April, surely they give you time?

I was offered an AFROTC scholarship which was specifically from that university (not the nation wide pool). Since they only have two scholarships to give out, I was only given a week to decide so that they could offer it to someone else if I declined.

Oh ok makes sense, although I have made up my mind to go to USAFA, parents dont want me to burn any bridges until I absolutely have to. May 1st for me I believe...

That is a smart decision, g forbid you get injured...afteral, I am pretty positive you not walking around like the Michelin man in bubble wrap :)

haha nooo... well i should be good now, the dangerous sport of wrestling has concluded and now iam runnin a low impact sport with track and iam liftin weights... ;)

airforce16, I'm in the same boat as you... the "dangerous sport of wrestling" as you put it (how true!) almost re-separated my shoulder a few weeks ago, which scared the crap out of me because I would have lost my chance for an appointment... it's finally almost back to 100%.

Thats not right, you shouldnt have had to turn it down. I have a four year Commanders Leadership Scholarship and I have accepted it but I have not turned down any paperwork. I have not signed any dotted lines. I am still waiting on the academy. Granted if i go to the academy i will turn down the scholarship and they will not get it back. This scholarship, they only get once in a while and it is not from the national pool. And only one is allowed to have it per year if they have it. I dont know why you turned it down when you didnt have too.

USAFAbound, your scholarship sounded very similar to the one I was offered. At the end of my AFROTC interview the officer, who knew that I was also considering the Academy, offered me the scholarship right there on the spot. However it was on the condition that I accept admission to the University of Texas right away. I think it may of been rushed because they had already given one of those scholarships out so he would of had to go out of his way to get the second one. So he gave me a week to accept it. :/

However I find out March 14 about the national ROTC scholarship so there is still hope in case I don't get accepted at the air force academy.
