How much snow do Brooklyn and Manhattan usually get?

Just wondering.

ha doesnt snow that often, maybe once or twice a month from november to february/march. ill put it this way, nyc public schools have not had a snow day since god knows when. (blizzard of 1996).

We've had two small snows this year so far and a lot of rain, but it's supposedly getting colder this week.

in nyc you get 38-45" a year

NYC schools dont close because the fact that many students woudent have anyplace to go and to the fact that on average 40% of each of the public HS, 40% of the studtents dont have heart at home.

my HS Herbert H. Lehman HS had 42% of students without heat at home.

not enough :( we had 2 snows, as bing said, that were large enough to make snowmen.. but last month we had several days that were quite warm, and a lot of rain that could have been snow had it been colder. i wish it would snow!!!! it looks very ugly after a few hours but oh i love snow.

i live 30 min from the city and we had 3 snow days and this is a good year.......i usually have 4 or 5

Hehe. Snow days are alien to me.

/it really snows in NYC outside of the movies and TV?

it will be rare that you get a real snowday.

if you're in college and the weatherpeople start hyping up a storm then you'll probably get something out of it...otherwise, you get nothing.

for college u will not get that many snow days cause snow is not that big of a deal around here, we're use to it.........but u will prob get some delays

i live outside nyc, and we get snowdays maybe 2 or 3 days a year. last year we got 5, but only 3 were significant amounts of snow. This year, we had 1 snow day, but there was 0' snow, the forecasters mispredicted the snowfall amounts.

UB_Vinny.... not really... Try taking half of that and that is the average snowfall for NYC...

I still can't believe they'd have universities close over snow. We got a 16 inches snowfall here in mid December, and exams went on as scheduled, but they accepted people up to two hours late.

hopkinslax and UB_Vinny:

Snow fall stats are hard to interperet, especially for a place like NYC. There are 3 different categories of snowfall i can think of:

Amount of snow that comes from the sky, regardless of whether it sticks

Amount of snow that STICKS to ROADS

Amount of snow that sticks to CENTRAL PARK GRASS

Basically, NYC does get a decent amount of snowfall, it just never sticks due to the fact that it's all concrete being constantly driven over. Most of the NYC snowfall readings come from an area of grass in the middle of central park, where it is much easier for snow to stick.

hopkinslax

I live in the bronx, what are you talking about. I know how much snow we get, every year at the end of winter they say on the news,

il stick to what i know, you can belive what i want.

yeah makes sense sort of. i mean, we dont get huge snowfalls, but snow every once in a while in small to moderate amounts. some snowfalls may be larger and may warrant a high school or elementary school closing, but universities dont close over snowfall, mainly b/c usually the students are centrally located. some may cancel classes for the day if there is a huge amount of snow, but not usually.

i think the cc clock is off. im posting this at 11:59 eastern, and it says 1143

I think nyc is expecting a snow stom this weekend...but the weather men always say that and then we get like and inch to three inches....guess we will have to wait and see!!!

UB-Vinny, this post asks about brooklyn and manhattan, you are in the Bronx. Snowfall and stickage varies greatly over the 5 boroughs. You are right, in the Bronx there is a lot more snowfall/stickage. (At least my friend there was always late for school when it was snowing, mainly due to above ground subway tracks)

NYC has a big storm! Yay but my private school gets off for a 1/2 an inch! omg I used to live on the South Shore of Long Island(45 minutes 2 an hour tops from NYC) and it was warmer then the north shore... one day it was a little above freezing w/ rain...on the north shore they had light snoww(1 inch tops) and we had a day off i was liek?! What in the world y do we have off? and weve had some other off days!

Im sitting in a blizzard right now. Well not outside in the blizzard, but inside a warm room looking out at the blizzard. should be around 6-12 inches.

im also in the blizzard.....they say 8-14 where im at
