Hey guys, so I applied ED to BU this fall and I put down that I want to be in CAS as a political science major. The issue is, I’m a senior now in AP Gov, my teacher is terrible, and for the first term I got a C!!! I’m really worried since Gov is supposed to be by best subject 1) since I said that I want to pursue it in college and also 2) because my extracurriculars are related to it. How much do you think this will affect my chance for admission?!
When did they get your fall term grades?
Bit of advice. Do not contact BU to explain the C and say that “my teacher is terrible”. it would hurt your application.
Same situation here, I got a C in AP Calc and I wanna do a Bio Major :((((( Hopefully it works out for us, only two weeks left until we find out nervously smiles

@TomSrOfBoston No, the teacher knows that I had things in my personal life going on and she has expressed that she feels bad for not cutting me any slack.
It would be a big negative on your application because college professors will not cut you slack unless it is a documented medical situation. Did your personal problems only affect this grade?
@TomSrOfBoston She would not say anything about cutting slack whatsoever. I did poorly on one test in this class after a particularly hard week in my personal life (it was one of the few grades in the term so it brought my grade down significantly). So yes this was the only class where the problems manifested in my grades. The nature of her email would be essentially that she knows I am a talented social studies student, and that she wants admissions to know that only one grade was the factor in the C that I got even though I work hard.
Still it will make you sound desperate.
Do you still think that she is a “terrible teacher” like you posted a week ago?

One bad grade won’t keep you out. It’s what you do over time. Everyone more or less has one aspect of the app that’s weak(er), knock the rest out of the park, and you should be fine.
although it is understandable, i think they would be more concerned that your grades are affected by your personal life if you email them to explain that. i can’t say for sure but i feel like colleges want to know that students can excel despite hardships
When do Early Decision results come out? They may have already made decisions.
