How much will a "W" on transcript hurt transfer chances?

Hello,

Just wondering here, but a certain class is really kicking my butt (its a three hundred level lit course on Chaucer with a prof who is not only dead boring, but dead hard at grading). I'm afraid it'll really hurt my GPA, but if I withdraw there'll be that ugly "W" on my college transcript-- which isn't too good since I'm trying to transfer for next fall.

My question is: just exactly HOW bad does a "W" look on transcripts?

Thanks a bunch.

One? not bad, more then that and ur gettin into trouble

i have 11, nearly every school i have talked to said they dont care one bit, cross it out and never look at it again. a few said as along as there is a decent explanation, your fine

i had two Ws last year on my transcripts and transferred to northwestern.

Good explanation for one of them, the other one i didn't really explain but it was self-explanatory: i dropped down a level in math.

wow how did u manage to explain 11 Ws though?

i have 5

2 of them are from me having to work more. and 3 is because well i felt burnt out. i cant think of a way to explain the 3 hahaha

i work full time, live 30 miles from school and have started 2 businesses in the last 2 years

same here. i was actually thinking of dropping a course because it would really affect my gpa (by like 0.3 to 0.4). so universities won't really care about it?

You would much rather 5 W's then a drop in your GPA. Well, maybe not 5 and it depends on how big the drop is.

However, I'd take a W before dropping my GPA. Your GPA is really important and W's are eh, something happened, have an excuse and you get by and it doesn't matter.
