I'm wondering now. NYC has closed schools for tomorrow, which RARELY happens. The last time was that snow storm like two years ago. I remember reading a statistic saying they've been closed like eight times over ten years or something.

So this girl who I'm friends with on FB says that we are overreacting and that in Florida things like this don't worry them.

But it seems that schools in Florida close whenever it rains.

So how often does it happen where you are?

If I had to say the worst I know it's New Jersey, where schools literally close whenever an inch of snow is even in the forecast.

^ ha, yeah. Virginia
s weather really depends. For us, I live in a really rural area, so usually, if we have .5 inches of snow, it
ll close. Plus, there
s one area within the county that
s at a high elevation, so it
s dangerous to have buses and whatnot go down the roads. So that sounds like we
d be out a lot, but it sometimes rarely snows. On the other hand, I remember in 7th grade we missed school for 15 days straight because of 5 feet of snow.

When Isaac came through, they cancelled school at 2AM, and parents were very mad. They got a lot of h*** for that. Now they don’t take chances. We had a day and a half off for Sandy. (I live in FL.)

Well here in NW Indiana, schools are more likely to close if there was a hard hitting thunderstorm the day before, or if it snow a foot.
My school though, if there is like a foot of snow, would only delay an hour or 2. But last year we have the 3rd most powerful blizzard on record and that was the only storm that we really had so school was close for a while (bad thing was that it was like before weekends so we didn’t get that much time off).

well here in maryland, my county of course, they are very lenient on closing schools, two inces of snow=no school, stuff like that. Also, since my county is huge, is there is icing anywhere school is closed no questions asked. It can be good at times, but other times school just runs longer into the summer which sucks.

Virtually all Massachusetts schools and colleges (MIT and Harvard included) are closed tomorrow, and probably will be Tuesday. In terms of my city in particular, we haven’t shut down in three years, and that was for a major snow storm - we have never shut down because of a hurricane, though.

I think everyone will be OK. That
s why they
re shutting everything down. If you went to school, you might not be OK. Just enjoy your day off.

I’m just staying home tomorrow - if it gets really bad, we’re moving our mattresses to the basement and staying there. I’ll be doing my AP World History homework by candlelight, lolol.

^Haha. I heard some people are evacuating NY, and some evacuations are mandatory. Here, it
s just wind, supposedly, so unless a tree falls on our house, we
ll be here at home. Well, probably school actually.

I’m from FL, and they NEVER close schools -____- We recently had a big flood, so bad people were canoeing in their streets lol, and the best they did was ask some parents to come pick students up after realizing their buses couldn’t even get through the roads.

VERY RARELY. We had 50mph winds from Sandy which was throwing down power lines and trees, but they still made kids walk to their stop and stand for 10 minutes.

Usually in the winter when snow storms come in we get a couple school closings. Surprisingly, we only had one day of light snow last school year and school still opened.

I’m at a new school this year, and I haven’t had a closure yet. But at my old school, they almost never closed. The temperature could be in the negatives and they’d still make us go, not even a delay. Funnily enough, there was one day they closed school and it stopped snowing around eight in the morning, so it was an entirely wasted snow day, haha.
