How one lousy grade can derail a kid!

My S had high SATs (NMF) but had some Cs in his junior year (chronic health issues). He didn't get into the ubercompetitive/Ivy Us he applied to, but he did get into some very good Us with good merit aid, in his chosen field, engineering. He's done very well where he chose, USC. He knows the material very well & is doing great.

AP Calc AB is very easy. Much easier than Pre-Calc IMO. People should definetly try it even if they didn't fare well in pre-calc.

I'm surprised pre-calc is so much trouble for people, especially to those who thought they were good at math. I never felt that bad in subjects I wasn't good at, even when my teacher was assigning electromagnetism/optics entirely for self study in AP physics.

Ray, AP Calc AB is NOT easy for all people. Please don't make blanket statements like that.

Some kids seem developmentally ready for calculus and do very well. Others may find it impossible no matter how much they work at it. Some kids who struggle in pre-calc do fine in calculus -- but many just continue to struggle in calculus.

kiralll511--haha, that's weird that we're so alike.

yup, I'm taking 3H. First quarter I got a B, second I got a B+, and I managed to get a B+ semester average because of my midterm. 3rd quarter I got a B-, and this quarter I have no idea how I'm doing because I still have to make up the only two tests we've had. There are certain topics I don't get, but the MOST ANNOYING thing is when I actually understand a topic and then I don't do well on the test because I'm in a hurry. It's so aggravating! And it's not liek getting a tutor will help, because only I can be able to speed up how fast I think while doing problems.

The thing is, most people at my school say that 3H is the hardest year of math (besides calc, depending on the person). People tell me that 12H/Precalc, which I'm taking next year, is actually a pretty easy class. But idk, because most of my friends are good at math.

I must live pretty close to you--Rockland.
Don't you find it annoying because the Sequential Math courses don't correlate to either Trig, Geometry, Algebra, etc.? lol, 3H is like all of those smushed into one year!
