How screwed am I?

I'm a junior and I'm looking towards college apps. I really messed up academically, but I feel that my EC's and standardized test scores are decent. I'm looking at UCLA and UC Berkeley as my long-shot schools and Pomona College as an impossible reality.

Any suggestions? Should i concede defeat? Go to a CC?
It is greatly appreciated.
I am Latino with a lower socio-economic studies and plan on studying Political Science/Philosophy in college

You’re not screwed. And although Berkeley will be a reach for you, you definitely could get into lower caliber schools with no problem. Just lower your expectations and apply to more than top 30 schools.

You realize that there are litterally thousands of schools in between Berkeley/Pomona, and a community college, right?
Your GPA is low but everything else is good.
You may try Questbridge but I’m afraid your GPA will be too low.
Apply to most UC’s, you’re sure to get into some.
Since you like Pomona, look into Hamilton, Haverford, Bowdoin, Colby, Dickinson, Franklin&Marshall. See if you can participate in their Fly-ins (registration is in August/September).
Since you’ve been politically active, look into Macalester or Oberlin.
Since you’re a classical guitarist, look into Lawrence or St Olaf.
Ask your guidance counselor for fee waivers.

bump

I’d start working on my essays.

This is one of the most fascinating “chance” posts I’ve seen in a while. Virtually impossible to predict, since you are so all over the place grade wise. Obviously you have the ability to excel in certain subjects. Maybe you’ll have some interesting things to talk about in your essays?

Since you refer to your performance as “messing up” maybe you should concentrate on acceptance at a lower/mid-tier UC with an eye toward transfer (or yes, maybe CC).

Also send a message to @ucbalumnus who I’m sure can weigh in with an opinion.

Since you seem to LOVE calculus (AB and BC?), maybe you could do something math related this summer, possibly a college level class?

Apply to Questbridge- it’s a lot of work, but if you get in they will help you with summer programs that align with your strengths. The deadline is very soon, the 26th maybe?

You have some english language issues in this post (repeal vs. appeal, advocator vs. advocate), definitely get an adult to help you with the Questbridge app.

Good luck, at the very least, you are an interesting candidate.
