It's my 2nd quarter in my first year at De Anza college; I wanted to come on here before I sought the advice of a counselor. I don't know if I should take EWRT1A or not...I passed in high school both the AP Comp and AP Lit exams with only a 3, and I feel that's not enough for UCs(esp. Berkeley), but I know it's enough to skip EWRT1A at De Anza and go straight to 1B. Also, I want to transfer to Berkeley as a business admin. major, and I don't quite understand how the English requirement works; copied&pasted from assist.org:
English/Reading and Composition (R & C): You must satisfy this requirement by
completing courses comparable to UC Berkeley's English R1A and English R1B.

Do not assume that this sequence can be divided. Unless the R1A and R1B
equivalents are separately specified above, the entire sequence should be
completed at this school.

Am I supposed to take both 1A and 1B, 1B and 1C, or all three?

Take all three, since your school is on the quarter system
Similarly, take all 4 physics, all 4 calculus, all 3 gen chem (if your major require any of these sequence, that is). That’s a drawback of the quarter system.
Also, don’t skip 1A. If you skip it, Berkeley may not accept that since they said clearly that “do not assume this sequence can be divided”.

Are you following IGETC or trying to satisfy the UCB-specific breadth requirements? If the former, I would think if your CC waives 1A because of your AP score you can move on to 1B and 1C… In the end, if you satisfy all the other areas, you will be IGETC certified. Is this wrong?

I went on Assist.org and found this:
READING AND COMPOSITION (R&C):

Complete courses articulated for the Reading and Composition Requirement at
Berkeley.

**You may also satisfy this requirement with a score/grade of:
5 on the AP Exam in English Literature & Composition; **
5 on the IB Higher Level Exam in English Language A1 credential exam;
C or better on the A-Level English Exam.

You may satisfy the first half of this requirement with a score of 4 on the AP
Exam in English Literature & Composition, or a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Exam in
English Language & Composition.

It doesn’t appear that your AP English scores satisfy those requirements.

The Berkeley School of Business Administration does not accept IGETC to fulfill its breadth requirements. The Berkeley College of Letters and Science does. (The OP mentioned business.)

Thanks everyone for clearing that up! Oh, and also, I had passed 7 AP exams back in HS…with about 3s and a few 4s. The English exams were among them…now I know 3 or 4s aren’t enough to SKIP any classes class altogether, but will I still get credit/units for all these exams? If so, then that is going to save me a bunch of time at De Anza!
