I am currently a sophomore and my gpa will be a 2.96 by the end the year. My SAT score is a 1490. I have took one ap so far and I plan on taking 5 aps next year. My activities include: Model Un(1year), TSA(1 year), GCKA(culture group 3 years), Church Youth Group(2years), CTC(volunteer group 1year), and I play soccer in a league. I know I can get my gpa to a 3.2(unweighted) by the end of junior year. I was wondering if I needed my extracurriculars and if doing Key Club for the next 2 years would be helpful. Also any tips for improving my overall application.
I’m not qualified to comment on your chances for NYU. But there is a good thread on here about students with 3-3.5 GPA’s and what colleges and strategies worked for them. I would take a look at it. There are lots of great options. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to link to it, but maybe someone else does.
Rather than doing more EC’s, I’d recommend getting leadership roles in the EC’s you have. How can you be more than just a board member or president of a club? Can you come up with new ideas for mentoring, tutoring, fund raising that may benefit others? Doing this will help your application at any college.
