According to hillel.org, Tulane has a total of 7000 Undergraduates with a Jewish enrollment of 2250. If these stats are important to you, you can look up any school on hillel.org and type in the name of the school under the college search.

I am not Jewish myself but I would not mind being at a school with a large Jewish population. Thanks for the information! I didn’t know the Jewish population was that large at Tulane.

No mail at all today… Hoping for a letter tomorrow!

It is fairly normal for the more selective schools to be “overrepresented” by Jewish students. By which I simply mean a percentage of the student population that is significantly higher than the general population. Here is the Hillel link mentioned, and the Reform Judaism Magazine where the stats originated is referenced in the article. The RJM has a pdf chart that gives a fair amount of detail. [Top 60 Schools by Jewish Student Population](http://www.hillel.org/about/news/2011/aug/31AUG11_Top60.htm)

A Google search using “jewish percentage colleges” will get you to the RJM pdf fastest.

There are a handful of schools (that I know about) that have a large Jewish population: Tulane, Emory, Muhlenberg, U Rochester, Brandeis, Binghamton, NYU. By large, I mean 20-30%. At many schools, the Jewish population is 8-10%. And at your historically Catholic Schools (Notre Dame, Villanova etc) much much lower (they don’t even list the stats on hillel.org).
That being said, even at the schools with the higher percentage of Jews, 70-80% of the kids are not Jewish.

jozuko - Yes, that is right. The chart says only Yeshiva and Brandeis have a majority Jewish population, and Barnard is close to half. As you will see from the RJM chart, Tulane ranks 9th in private schools in absolute number of Jewish students, but not in the top 20 in terms of percentage. They have Tulane at just a hair over 25% Jewish, and the 20th ranked school is over 27%.

Honestly, not that any of this should matter to anyone other than those that are wanting to be sure they can maintain their personal values. In other words, I can certainly understand that a person of any faith that is interested in practicing that faith would want to be sure there was someplace, either affiliated with the university or otherwise accessible, for them to do so. Otherwise I am not sure how much this issue affects the day-to-day life at Tulane. It has some impact for sure. The school is off for Yom Kippur, and I think it has a minor effect on what programs are selected in terms of exhibits, speakers, etc. But overall Tulane is secular both officially and in practice.

Like I said, I only brought it up now because it inevitably comes up at some point during this process. Now we can all just reference future questions to these posts.

I just got admitted to Tulane today! I’m from the Cleveland area, and my admissions rep was Holly Gill. I’m hoping to receive some aid when I get my letter. I thought I would post in case someone else was wondering what area people are getting accepted from! I’m excited to be admitted!

Congrats Anna!

That’s great anna! Congrats. I would say based on the stats you posted in July, you have a very very good chance for merit money. Maybe even Honors Program. I guess you will find out soon.

Just got accepted

congrats!!

Has anyone who lives in NYC or has Erica Sam Rench heard back yet??

Congrats sixerfan. Waiting for the letter is almost as bad as waiting for the acceptance!

Hey bowler. When was your app marked complete on Gibson and when did you get your acceptance on Gibson?

I know I’ve answered this before but I don’t remember who asked… My app was marked as complete on the 1st of November and I got my acceptance on Gibson on the 5th.

Sure FC. My son had a 32 ACT and 3.6 unweighted, 4.31 weighted. Crew team, strong internship, regular community service. Took 2 Sat 2s and did really well: 790 and 720. Sent them even though not required. Heavy interest in science and medicine. Visited last February.
I think I’m more relieved than he is !!

New to this thread. Stats and info for my younger daughter for those still waiting.

3.5 UW/4.0 W, 31 ACT, Track, Theatre and Chorus, numerous APs. Applied 9/23, and had everything except counselor form in on that date. Counselor form not received until 10/31. Admission via Gibson notification on 11/1. Letter received 11/5. $20,000/year scholarship. From Illinois–admissions counselor=Erica.

My guess is that her rapid acceptance upon final receipt of the counselor form (24 hours) indicates that TU (or at least some admissions counselors) begins review of applications when they are virtually complete. In our case, the fact that about 10 people a year apply from her high school may have made it easier for admissions to project what the counselor form would look like and/or know the counselor herself.

We’re very excited. We’re still working out visit plans around activities, but it will be sometime early next year, and we can’t wait.

Good luck to those waiting, and congratulations to those who have already been admitted.

Congrats to everyone… we’re still waiting!! Hoping for a decision soon, since my son is really reluctant to consider anything else until he knows (he applied to 8 other schools, got into 5, but won’t even do a pros/cons list until he hears from Tulane).

At least I know it will probably only be a month longer unless he gets deferred… ;)

Hey bowler, what time of day did you Gibson say congrats? Do you remember?

for us it was 3 pm on a Thursday

How many days after it said complete?
