How to choose a dorm at Northwestern?

I’ve pretty much decided to commit to Northwestern’s class of 2021, but I’d like to know more about housing before I fill out the forms.
Are there any dorms known for partying versus for being generally quieter? Are some more centrally located than others? I toured but didn’t really get to see the residential halls. Also, are there any dorms that are like… nicer/newer/larger lol?
My state flagship that everyone’s going to has dorms that match each category that I mentioned, but I’m not sure if Northwestern does. Thanks!

If you’re taking many social sciences / humanities courses or are in Medill, I strongly recommend Allison. If you’re an engineer, I recommend Elder. Based on my experience, freshmen have had the best experiences with those two dorms.

Dorms that are “nicer/newer/larger” would be Shepard Hall and 560 Lincoln, the latter being opened for 2017-2018. Based on what I’ve seen, the recently rennovated Shepard Hall is very luxurious compared to other residential halls. It features lots of space for studying, high tech equipment, and two kitchens. Though, I’ve heard this is probably one of the hardest dorms to get into as there is a lot of competition for a spot. I can imagine 560 Lincoln being extraordinarily good as well. Just don’t choose Bobb Hall.

IMHO - Res Colleges are best - Full Disclosure: I have 2 kids that are NU alums and they both chose res colleges.
