how to force yourself to love CR passages?

To be frank and honest, I absolutely hate the SAT cr passages. They are boring, dull, and insipid. All they talk about is literature, or some other uninteresting narrative. Studies show that the brain processes information 40% (or somewhere near that) slower if it is not engrossed or into whatever you are doing.

So, when I'm reading a boring CR passage, and I don't like it, the brain will naturally process and think 40% slower. but if i get to love the passages, then my brain will speed up my thinking and thus, make me able to answer questions faster, which saves more time, and improves my chance of getting questions correct since you're so into the passage.

Now, many have suggested to force yourself to love the passages, but I personally cannot stand them. Everytime I try to "love" them, I just pretend and after 2 or 3 paragraphs, i can't take it anymore, it just gets me bored and I always think "sigh, this is such a drag.... 5 more paragraphs to go! -__-"

If there is anyway to resolve this problem, may you, kindly, share it with me and the community? thank you!!! :)

Nobody in their right minds would “love” SAT RC passages. It IS meant to be boring and that is why the hardest of the three sections to improve on the SATs is indeed the CR. I guess my advice for myself… is just to keep reading and keep practicing these passages… Especially the dual passages… boy those are killer but one nice thing to keep in mind is that the max number of words per passage is 850.
Read some boring articles online or something… whether it be the news, history, sophisticated language… idk
you won’t find it amusing but you might build resistance

The autobiographies and fiction can be interesting, but the scientific passages…zzzzzzzz…

You will have problems in college if your brain can’t process boring material.

$$$$$$$$$ in the future is what helps me

If that’s how you feel about the reading comprehension passages on the SAT and you want to improve your score on the CR section, then you’re fighting an uphill battle.

More importantly, your comments imply that you don’t love reading. That’s too bad…particularly for the effect it will have on your life beyond college.

Concentrate. These are all well-written and lucid passages even if they’re on obscure topics.

For instance, I never looked up an article specifically about the duality of the mind and body or the efficacy of the legal process, but they’re pretty interesting if you think about it.

The key is to learn to enjoy information indiscriminately. If a particular article is really just to boring, then the key is concentration. Learn how to concentrate and you’ll do fine.

Take notes. It helps you concentrate and focus on the material. I was never bored when I busy taking notes for every paragraph.

You can’t force yourself to love <3

Man, I get a 800 on CR every time and I don’t love those passages at all. I don’t hate them; I’m just indifferent. There’s no way you can force yourself to love CR passages.

I’ve heard people say they underline important sentences or write notes on the side, which helps keep them engaged in reading. Maybe try that?

Take the ACT. I think ACT passages are always pretty interesting while the SAT ones are dreadful.

@chillwitm

oh my god.!!! i never thought of that!! building resistance!!! you’re a genius chillwitm :smiley: thanks!!

guess i should starting buying NY times newspaperes and read every single article. LOL. i’ll probably be dead by then but i’m still trying it. thanks again.

@bartelby, I’m writing in my foolish/ slang in a way language because it’s just college confidential and nothing special. It’s not like I"m writing a resume or a newspaper for the NY times. LOL. I don’t need a subject and verb or complete sentence when I’m discussing here.

and actually, I like grammar, even though i dislike reading. ^__^

this is off topic but, how do you quote what people write in CC? like what bartelby did to a part of my post. ?

@MathTeamExtraPro
You’ve completely misunderstood Bartleby’s post (not to put words in his mouth). He’s merely saying that you’re negative attitude is hindering your SAT reading and could have further implications in college. He’s not insulting your writing style.

I find it interesting that you never comment on my posts when you make threads.

@MathTeamExtraPro: I think we have some reading comprehension issues.

@dumbandlethal, I actually really enjoy reading your posts but there are just a lot of people who comment and i can’t respond & say thanks to all of them. :smiley: here’s a thanks for you! thank you thank you thank you thank you. :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

@Bartleby, ya… i misunderstood what you were trying to say. sorry. xD

You can’t really force it, you either enjoy them or you don’t. I genuinely found them interesting with no ‘forcing’ involved (in a related note, I got an 800).

@THWG2017 -___________________________- how many people have to brag around college confidential posting everywhere they got an 800? SHUT UPP!! NO ONE CARES!!! GOD!!!
