Hey guys, I m taking the Math Level 1 SAT Subject test this August. I always make silly mistakes and I run out of time. Kaplan seems a little too hard. How do you get a perfect 800? I really need it.
Have you looked into Math II? It might be a bit better for you since the curve is much more generous, provided you know the material.
Yes, I am taking that next August after a full year of pre-calc but I wanna do both tests.
I only took Math II (got 800) and am not sure of the difference, but as a tip for silly mistakes (which I made all the time), I was able to improve by consciously reminding myself each question to read every word, mark/remember what it’s asking for, and then in solving “easy” problems to never take any simple arithmetic for granted/stay focused entirely on the work I’m doing when I’m doing it, since you don’t have much time to check a second time. As for time, when I took the actual exam, I think I ran out of time too or didn’t answer a few questions. You may already do this but I try to solve the faster/more straightforward problems first and then come back to harder problems, since they all count the same.
And when taking practice tests, make note of the specific topics you don’t know or seem to be spending more time on than you think should be, and then review those in whatever prep book you have.
Good luck!
Thanks for the tips!
Why do you “really need it?”
The practice tests are in indication of what you will get.
I sat about 8 practice papers (Maths Subject Level 2) and averaged about 776 from those trials. I ended up getting 790.
Unfortunately, they dont have the SAT subject tests in August in Australia but its something that I would love to sit again to better myself.
I averaged from 5 papers (Maths Subject Level 1) and averaged about 730 from those trials. I ended up getting 750.
Im still determined to do better and will re-sit.
