How to get financial aid for University of California schools?

Hello,

If you are applying to University of California schools (Berkeley, UCLA, etc), how do you apply for their financial aid?

I looked through their website but I could not find any relevant details regarding finaicial aid. Can someone give me an insight?

When you fill out the FAFSA online through the FAFSA website, you indicate/send the info to the UCs you are applying to–there will be school codes offered and you can easily send to up to 10 colleges (and more, but you have to go through some other hoop to make it work). You fill out FAFSA this January, though usually not due until March 2nd BUT be sure to find the cut off date.

The schools will later, sometimes much later, send you FA package info.

Are you a California HS student eligible for Cal Grant? If so, there is some info the HS needs to send as well, I believe, for that particular grant.

No I am not california…guess i am not elligible for the cal grant

If you’re OOS, there’s no way to get substantial aid from a UC. You need outside scholarships or to apply elsewhere unfortunately.

If you’re OOS, then don’t expect much/any aid.

Students have to understand that publics charge high OOS costs for a reason. It wouldn’t make much sense to then cover those high costs with need-based aid. If that were the case, they might as well not charge high OOS costs.

Some OOS students with really high stats might get offered a modest merit scholarship, but you’ll still have to pay most costs.
