Hi! I am currently in my first year at a Canadian university. My HS average and College GPA (for now) are both 4.0. I went through many posts about transferring to NYU, talking about how impossible it is, and that really freaks me out. Could anyone who got admitted to Stern tell me what it is that got you in? Thank you very much!
First be sure the college would be affordable for you.
Not to freak you out more, but this is from the horse’s mouth:
“Admission for external transfer students to Stern is extremely competitive. Nearly all of our available space is given to applicants who are already students at NYU. ”
But “nearly all” isn’t “all”, so there is room for somebody!! Your gpa is excellent of course so that’s a great start - next question is, have you met all the course requirements for a transfer into Stern?

Yes, I have met all the course requirements.
Hhhh right, I’ve heard that NYU applicants should never mention financial aid in their application form. Otherwise, they will be rejected 100%.
What good does getting in do if you don’t have the $70k it costs to attend? If you need financial aid, apply for it.
Well, if that was true everyone would be full pay at NYU. NYU has a need blind admission process. It does not however meet full need.
I’m not sure how true this is of NYU but it seems to be commonly believed that transfer students (not just at NYU but many colleges) usually don’t get aid.
Thanks, but I might not meet the criteria for a financial aid cuz I am an international student from China. It might be easier for domestic applicants to apply for it.
Thank you, but right now I just want to get in hahahaha
Oh, that’s an important fact. Aid for internationals is only available to first year applicants.
“…non-U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents applying for transfer admission or their second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for financial aid.”

So if you do need aid to attend, there’s no point in applying. If you don’t, go for it.
Many/most of the transfer slots are reserved for NYU students attending other schools within the university so I think you have a good shot. Be sure you satisfy the Math requirement of stern prior to applying and see your academic adviser prior to doing anything. They will steer you in the right direction. As for maintaining your score, I just started using this tool groverscore (www.groverscore.com) that helped me maintain my GPA last semester. They have all of our courses loaded in which is nice and it lets you manage and track all of your coursework. Worked for me might be worth a look for you.
Good luck!
Thank you very much!
Oh I see, thank you very much!
