The Cal states admit by EI and will rank applicants by their EI and major. They do take into account HS rigor, but it is all based on stats. California local residents get priority for their in-service area CSU, then other California residents followed by OOS and International applicants. You do have an advantage if you can afford the OOS costs, since the CSU’s are looking for the extra money OOS applicants will pay. Geographic location is a consideration. You still have to meet the EI threshold established by each CSU and unfortunately not published for SDSU.
Do you know when they start sending admission decisions?
Some students are notified Mid- December. Usually High stat applicants and prospective Honors college students hear in December. The rest of the applicants hear from end of Feb-March.
I am filling out my application for SDSU now. I don’t see anywhere on the GPA calculator where OOS can not add extra honors points. I put Liberal Studies as the major and Environmental Science as a backup.
The CSU GPA calculator will not make a distinction between in-state and OOS for the extra honors points. The distinction is made in the instructions on how you can calculate the GPA. You can submit what you think your CSU GPA is based on your calculation, but the CSU’s will recalculate based on your state of residency and your self-reported grades.
Sorry for all of the questions. My high school uses semesters and on the foreign language section it says I need 2 years and 4 semesters. I have completed 3 courses of Spanish but not 4 semesters. What do I put?
What level of Spanish have you completed? Did you take Spanish in Middle school?
I have completed Spanish III. No.
If I took a class in the fall and earned a grade do I put it in twice in the fall and spring? The CSU application is like the Florida application in which you had to put a grade twice for both semesters.
Yes, enter the course name once but enter the received grade twice. CSU’s are interested in the level of Spanish completed, not the # of semesters.
Gumbymom Thank you very much for all of the help. I really appreciate it.
Alright, I have submitted my application for SFSU, SDSU, CSUN, and CSULA. Let’s hope for the best.
@sdsupride Have you heard back from SFSU, SDSU, CSUN, or CSULA?
@Superman147 Yes, I got accepted at SDSU. I plan to enroll at SDSU and be involved with the ROTC program. I have not heard back from the other CSU. I have no idea how I was accepted at SDSU.
Congratulations! Thats a very hard school to get into! Was this your top choice?
Thank you!!! YES, I have dreamed of getting into SDSU the past two years. I am really excited.
Thats awesome! You heard back pretty early! My top choices are SDSU and Fullerton but I have yet to hear from either of them. What was your major @sdsupride
Food and Nutrition. Are you in the local service area? They usually admit out of staters in December from my understanding.
I am in California but not in the San Diego area! My eligibility index falls short of what the average is @sdsupride
I think you will get in. Probably around February. My eligibility index was like 970 and I got in as an OOS go figure.
