How to get on the right track?

I am currently a sophmore in high school and I am interested in applying to a pre-med school in the future. What classes and activities should I be participating in that will set me apart from anyone else and give me a better chance of getting into a good pre-med school.

Hello collegescholar!
I am a senior in college and I’m studying pre-med in college. If there’s any advice I could give you, it would be to excel in your science courses. Don’t worry about extracurricular activities or volunteering at hospitals because that should be more of the focus once you’re in college. Instead, try to maintain a 4.0 GPA and all A’s in every science class. You should also do science research and win some awards in that if you are looking to go to a competitive undergraduate pre-med school. This is important because your chances are very unlikely of getting into med school if you didn’t go to a good undergraduate school. Best of luck! Feel free to respond if you have any questions!

Thanks for the helpful advice! I was wondering if there was anything more you can tell me about the directbsmd programs. Also, are there any coaching services that you would recommend?
Thank you!

In addition, I was considering taking a pre college summer course at Brown University in a biology related class. If there is a specific course offered at their summer course is there a certain one you would recommend?

Hey I’m currently in a bs/md program and I’ll tell you this: focus on bgrades, SAT/SAT II scores, and lots of extracurriculars. Do things because you like them, not just to put on your resume since it really shows. Don’t be afraid to try new and unusual things. If you only focus on grades, you may get an interview, but you won’t do as well at the interview. They want to see that you have a life outside of classes, that you have considered other career paths other than medicine, and that you are mature enough to manage your time efficiently.
During my interview, the interviewer told me “You guys all look the same on paper. All of you have great grades in your classes and great scores. Tell me, what sets you apart? What makes you special? What is different about you that we would want you here?”

Any suggestions for pre college programs for aspiring doctors?
