How to have a Successful Food Drive with an Unenthusiastic High School?

Hey, so I'm part of my school's service club, and right now we're doing a food drive. Although a few classes bring in many cans, and some classes bring in like a few cans, there are many classes that don't even participate at all. We definitely publicize, on the bulletin, on our facebook group, and with posters, but in the end, people just don't care enough. For those of you who have been able to make people care, what have you done? It makes me sad when I come to classes to collect empty boxes. We have tried several things like penny wars and other types of fun "games" and this time are doing competitions with incentives for the top seller and those who bring a minimum of 50 cans. How did you guys campaign to make people more aware and excited for food drives? Thanks!!

ice cream party!!!

Basically this or some other prize.

I posted this in a different thread the other day, but my school did this thing where kids brought in rolls of coins to a specified class period for a week, and the teacher had to unroll them and count them all before the teaching could begin. In theory you could spend a whole class doing nothing.
But I think a lot of people fail to bring in cans because they forget about the food drive when they get home, and there’s not a lot you can do about that. And I assume at least a few of the kids don’t bring in cans because they’re part of the group that will receive them.
If your school requires community service for graduation, you might be able to work something out with the school and make it so bringing in a certain number of cans counts as a service hour for graduation. But that’s just off the top of my head and they probably wouldn’t allow it.

bump10char!! this is for the good of the community and i would really appreciate some advice! thank u so much

The best way to convince anyone to do anything is present to them why it would benefit them, rather than benefit you (or the community).

Talk with your school’s administrator to set up some kind of prize/reward for bringing in the most cans (like a trip somewhere… FREE FOOD…), and I’m sure every class will be stoked to participate.

yeah we always have free food as incentives but a trip  that sounds really cool  humph but it mite be expensive…any other ideas??

heather’s idea sounds ingenious
