Hi i am a rising senior and my recent may SAT scores was horrible, it was my first time no practice at all 480 CR 520 Math 480 Writing. I know i can improve my math score no problem but, what to do about Cr and Writing :( any tips, books, advise ....

Well, I’d suggest trying the ACT instead. Plenty of people do well on one test but not on the other. But if you really want to use the SAT, I’d suggest reading a lot to improve your CR score. Writing isn’t hard if you know what they’re looking for in the essay. They like length, big words, and examples (examples can be completely fictional, it doesn’t matter).

half a year ago mine went from 1960 to 2200 in 2 months with princeton review and sat study guide

just take the tests over and over again, find your most common mistakes and work ont them.
i think writing is the easiest to improve, followed by math (very easy if ur already good at math), and crit reading. cr takes a little extra, memorizing words and developing “critical reading” skills.

do the tests!

You could read Xiggi’s advice on the very first post of CC. Start reading and learning vocabs for CR and practice math problem for the Math Section. (Do remember each tricks that you find through out our practices- it will always help during the real SAT)

I used to get math score like, around 500
and within one month my score come up
to 640(not satisfied anyway.)
but quite ok for the first step of the math hater like me,
maybe I do it slow cuz i’m international and never do math
in English before. so i think you will make it better than me.
my next plan is 700+ ^^ goodluck

You have some good advice so far…

Take the ACT (Michael2010)

“just take the tests over and over again, find your most common mistakes and work them out.
Xiggi’s advice is great… (archi92)

My extra two cents - Take a couple of ACT practice tests and if you do much better on the ACT then spend all your time studying for the ACT and forget about the SAT.

If your ACT is as hard for you as the SAT then spend 90% of your time studying the CR and Math sections of the SAT. matxjos was correct about what areas are easiest to improve, but “most colleges” still don’t care about the writing section.

If you are taking SAT practice tests - Do the official Blue Book tests first.

Thanks everyone for the advise i appreciate it. What books would you recommend 2 study for the ACT ???
