How to improve my chances of getting into a top college?

Hi, I’m an ambitious highschool freshman whose dream is to get into a top college (like an ivy league). I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to post this; this is my first post on this website.

I just wanted to know what I have to do to go to a college like this, so far as a freshman my EC’s are
-Tennis
-Chess
-Violin
-Vex robotics
-It may be worth mentioning that I’m very strong in math, already taking AP calculus AB

I just wanted to know if I should try to master one of these specifically or if I should broaden my horizons and find more EC’s. Also is there any other goals I should try to achieve like going to state science fair, finding an internship, attending summer camps, etc.
Thank you for your time

Thanks for telling me! Do you have any other tips, or should I not get too far ahead of myself?

You need to be a little humble first and realize that you have a long way to go to prove yourself!
That is great and quite exceptional to take an AP math as freshmen! But (not downplaying your effort), there are kids who skip AB altogether, and jump to BC (my own daughter was, for one!) and still have hard time with elite schools!
Do your best and hope for best and remain humble as you just have started a long journey with a lot of hurdles on your path!

So, I should just stay hopeful, try hard, and in the end I will make it?

I highly recommend that you try everything that interests you this year. Check out the opportunities in your school and area by looking through local newspapers, websites, etc. Freshman year is a great time to explore new things because you’ll be able to commit to those activities throughout your summers and school years which shows dedication. Once you find some things you really like to do, ALWAYS find ways to grow and learn from it.

Example: go to chess club every week --> stand out by helping out and making friends --> take on a leadership role --> create a chess competition in your school --> train your club --> invite other schools to compete --> compete in bigger and more official competitions --> etc…

Whatever you do, make an impact on yourself and others.

Anyways, that’s just my two cents. I’m a junior and I wish I took this advice! Lately, I’ve been so worried that my extracurriculars aren’t good enough for college but I’m soon realizing that everything will turn out just fine if I make the most out of my opportunities. So, never waste a moment --always be on your feet to learn something new.

All of this may sound like a lot of work but believe me, it doesn’t feel like work when you’re doing something you love to do.

thank you for this advice, I’ll take it to heart
