How to know the college got everything?

Is there any way to know if the college you apply to is missing anything. I mean everythign is sent in now and i just wish i could make sure it was all received. Im assuming this is on a school to school basis, but any general ideas? (mine is for swarthmore atm)

Some schools send out short letters via the mail, or if you fill out the app online, you might get an email notification. But, just to make sure, call up the admissions office and ask. I did this for a school I applied to and they happily verified that they had all the necessary info. You can find this number on the website most likely.

Some schools send you an ID number and you can check the completeness of your application online. Other schools tell you by postcard, email, or phone if something is missing. If it is, you can resubmit.

Depending on when you call and how many applications they are receiving, a school may not be able to tell you. It takes time to process that much paper. saint_paul's experience seems pretty unusual -- what I usually hear of is admission's departments not being able to say on the phone and telling people in no uncertain terms NOT to call them. They have thousands of pieces of paper; they are not going to want to wade through them all looking for things relevant to one particular caller.

If the Swarthmore materials don't discuss this subject, you can always call and ask if you will be notified if something is missing from the file. If they say yes, then relax. If they say no, then ask how and when you can confirm the completeness of the application. (My experience is that colleges DO tell you that stuff is missing, but I don't have experience with all the thousands of schools in the US.)

One of my colleges didn't receive the SAT scores that were sent in April. They asked me how it was sent. I don't know, I had listed the name of the college on my SAT application, so I guess it was sent automatically. At least, I have the report from College Board that scores were sent to that particular college, but the college is not able to find them. Did anybody else have this experience? If yes, how do you get this resolved? Do I have to pay $9.50 again?

collegebound2007>> i had this problem with northeastern. they said the scores were on a tape or something from when i sent them in april, and the scores hadn't been downloaded yet but then they were downloaded a few days ago. just call again in a few days, they should be there.

Thanks, Strawberry.
Yes, I have this problem with NorthEastern! I feel better now, I'll call again in a few days.

You may have the problem solved. But if not, I'll share our experience. Two colleges were missing my daughter's ACT scores. One allowed us to fax a copy of the score report we had received. For the other, I called up ACT, explained the situation, and another score report was sent free of charge. I imagine that the SAT folks handle things the same way.

thanks i have another question, ddint awnna make a new thread.

got my SAT scores today (2nd time), went from a 720m 700v 690w to a 750m 749v 740w, which i guess is kinda significant. i put down to send a score report to swarthmroe and i noted on my app that i took them on the 14th. will they get the scores in time before they make decisions?

I would think so. But you could just call the school and ask, just to make sure you don't need to rush the scores or anything. College Board itself may be able to tell you when it would report that second set of scores to the school. My experience with the ACT folks is that they could say when a particular school was scheduled to receive its next set of scores.

In other words, a few minutes on the phone could put your mind at rest -- so I think it would be worth it.
