How to rebound from a bad sophomore year?

So, I royally screwed up Sophomore year, got 4 B’s, and 3 A’s, two of those B’s in my only weighted classes’, second semester. I am taking four weighted, two advanced, and one regular class next year and plan to really apply myself, since I slacked off and screwed up sophomore year, but will it deeply affect my college admissions’, particularly for top tier colleges’ since I screwed up sophomore year. My weighted was 3.93 for the whole year, 4.14 first semester, 3.71 second semester, and I didn’t even bother to calculate my unweighted GPA, since I knew it’d be bad.

How badly will it look on college apps? Or will making it up junior and senior year slightly make it look less bad IDK?

This happened to me too. My weighted GPA was a lot worse than yours. I rebounded in junior year, taking all AP and honors and earning straight As second semester (got 2 Bs in first semester).

In my opinion, as long as you bring your grades up for junior year, it’ll be okay. It’s not like you did super awful sophomore year. As a rising junior, people are constantly telling me that junior year is like THE year that gives colleges a good sense of who you are. If they see that you’re making a conscious effort and improving, I think you should be good.

Will my GPA really affect my acceptance into top tier colleges though?

GPA will of course affect how admissions look at you, but improving is something they look for as well

You basically are the same as me.

My Soph Grades:

B
B
B-
B
B
A-
A

Now i am very ambitious and i really want to go to Georgetown (very selective). So obvi these grades were devastating :frowning:

Anyways i really got it back together in Junior year:

A
A
A
A-
A-
A-
B+

My goal is all As in senior year. In essence…colleges like to see IMPROVEMENT. Most colleges dont pay attention to GPA when looking at apps. Instead they pay attention to the GRADES YOU’RE GETTING. So be solid your junior and senior year.

Best of luck!

Q: How badly will it look on college apps?
Well…it’s not going to look good

Colleges want to see an upward trend so probably. All you can do is improve rn so strive for that

As long as you show gradual improvement over your junior and senior year regarding classes and grades, they’ll see that you have the will to try and persevere. Your chances aren’t completely ruined.
